Chicago's Best Ice Skating Rinks

Chicago's Best Ice Skating Rinks

I love love love ice skating, and I’m so excited that this weekend marks the opening of the Chicago Park District’s ice rinks. I didn’t realize just how many ice rinks there are throughout the city! So, if you’re looking for a little exercise to work off the turkey, or the Black Friday shopping adrenaline rush, check out one of these rinks:

McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, AKA Millennium Park Ice Skating Rink
As I said last week, I think all Chicagoans should try this at least once. It’s a beautiful rink in a beautiful setting. I’ve been a few times, and it’s a lot of fun. Although don’t go during a high touristy time unless you want to get bowled over by families of five. Admission is free and skate rental is $10.

Warren Park Ice Rink
If you’re looking for a more quaint skating experience in the city, this is a good one. The rink is nestled among evergreens well inside the park, but you can still rent skates for $6. Admission is free.

Daley Bicentennial Plaza Ice Rink
Can you tell I like skating downtown? I’m not usually such a supporter of the touristy areas, but if you’re looking for the holiday spirit that’s where you’re going to find the biggest splash. Admission is free and skate rental is $7. You can also bring the young’uns for free skating lessons.

Stay turned for more information about the Hancock building’s ‘Skating in the Sky,’ opening January 1. It looks awesome!

Note: The Rink at Wrigley, opening December 1, is not included in my recommendation as it’s not that great. I guess if you’re a huge Cubs fan it might be cool to say you skating next to the park. I went last year and I didn’t think the $10 admission fee plus the $10 skate rental fee was worth it.
