It's a "Taste of Grease and Classic Movies" Kind of Weekend

Happy Friday! I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the fact that it’s pretty much August. (Especially because I’m not terribly pleased with turning 27 next month.) That just means we have to make the most out of the rest of the summer! Here are a few weekend suggestions for ya:

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Taste of Lincoln Avenue, but I just love Chicago’s summer food festivals. It’s pretty self explanatory. Eat food, listen to music. Toad and the Wet Sprockets will be there, and I’ll be cramming my face with goodies from Etno Village Grill, Chicago Dog House, Clarke’s, Select Cut Steakhouse and Grand Central.

Throw a little sass into your weekend with Live New’d Girls, featuring Michelle L’Amour and the Chicago Starlets.

There are so many fab live theaters in Chicago, but let’s not forget about the movie theaters. The Logan Theater is hosting a classic movie festival all weekend. Check out the multiple late-night screenings of Scarface, Pulp Fiction, Casablanca and Clerks for only $5. I do have to say that I don’t think Clerks belongs in the same category as the other three. That movie is way over-rated.

And at another theater across town, an incredibly campy Grease Sing-A-Long. Not only can you sing at the top of your lungs to those Grease classics, but there’s also the ever-popular pre-show costume contest. Time to buy that poodle skirt you’ve been eyeing.

Have you been to the Newberry Library book fair yet? GO!

The youngest sister wants to hit the clubs for her 21st birthday, so you’ll find your favorite Chicago Quirk downing overpriced beverages at Enclave and Stone Lotus on Saturday night. If you see an awkward blonde chick standing in a corner trying not to get impaled by cheap stillettos, come over and say hi!
