This week the Foo Fighters released the cover art for their new album Sonic Highways, coming out this fall. The album cover art combines iconic imagery from various U.S. cities, including Chicago’s Hancock Tower in a prominent location in the top center of the album.
Additionally, the Chicagoist reports that the Foo Fighters will be releasing various covers for the vinyl version of the album, each featuring only one of the cities used in the composite image, so you can score a all-Chicago version of the cover if you so choose.
The Foo Fighter’s album cover made me think back to all the other albums released by famous musicians that have featured the Windy City. I put together a list of eight famous covers of popular albums that feature Chicago-themed art.
Lots of thanks to Barry Watson, Beth Voigt and Eric Lesch for reminding me of Chicago-themed albums I may have missed otherwise.
