Proposed reassignments of Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) officers have begun, and already some Austin residents are concerned. Community leaders are worried that communication will weaken between the police and residents. The region has the fourth highest level of crime in the city.

- The CHA has formed a development team for the Lathrop Homes, and Lathrop residents are committed to lobbying for historic preservation of the public housing complex in the upcoming “open planning process.” The residents favor reconfiguring the existing buildings with larger, affordable units and oppose the construction of any new luxury buildings.
- After George W. Bush’s recent admission that one of his presidential low points occurred when rapper Kanye West accused him of being racist during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, West told NBC’s Matt Lauer that he “didn’t have the grounds” to make the comment. Bush said he appreciated West’s sentiments.
