Exercise Of The Weekend - Jump Rope

Hey Chicago, Happy Friday and Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

It’s a beautiful start to the weekend and it looks like it’s going to stay nice for a few days so hopefully you get a chance to get outside and get some exercise!
Today’s Exercise Of The Weekend is often over-looked and hardly used but if used, will increase your endurance, burn extra calories, help you recruit more muscle fibers, stimulate the use of fast twitch muscles and improve your coordination. 
What Is It? 
  • Jumping Rope
How to Perform?
  • You will use this to increase your heart rate between sets of resistance exercises. For every 10 minutes of resistance exercises perform 1 minute of jumping rope. So if you are working out for 1 hour, then you will be performing 6 sets of jump rope for 1 minute at a time. 
  • Jumping rope is a great way to increase your aerobic capacity, which helps strengthen your heart and burn more calories.
  • Jumping rope works muscles in your legs that you normally don’t use so it’s a great way to burn more calories and recruit more muscles that are typically neglected.
  • Jumping rope helps with your coordination because it involves moving parts of both your upper body and lower body and timing the skip of the rope which helps increase motor unit recruitment.
  • Jumping rope is a great way to take advantage of the time you usually rest between sets.
