Chicago’s new hotspot, The Robey in Wicker Park sits high above the six corners intersection where Damen, Milwaukee and North Avenue meet. Known for its laid back attitude, indie spirit and trending bars and restaurants, the Wicker Park neighborhood is where hipsters and hipster want-a-bes hang.

The Robey has been a welcome addition to the area since it opened in 2016. The hotel offers  69 Tower Rooms plus 20 Annex Lofts along with dining, drinking, a rooftop pool and live entertainment.

The building’s shell date’s back to 1929 when it was known as the Coyote.

The Robey name comes from its past–when the north-south artery that is now Damen Avenue was called Robey Street–melding the skyscraper’s past with its fresh new look.

Head to the second floor of The Robey for their weekly artistic retreat featuring complimentary live music paired with expertly crafted cocktails and bites at Live from The Lounge on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Or go any night to chill with drinks and appetizers. img_0090

Here’s the scene.

In the evening, the lounge that serves as a hip work retreat during the day, transforms into a chic cocktail haven. Favorites from the drink menu include the El Diablo with Libelula tequila, crème de cassis, ginger beer, and lime, Rosamosa Hangar One vodka, cocchi rosa, lemon, soda and the Gather Your Strength with Gingerbread Rooibos Wild Turkey Rye, Lustau PX Sherry, Braulio amaro and bitters.

The creative cocktails are the perfect accompaniment for bites curated by Café Robey’s Executive Chef Kevin McAllister.

Menu highlights include: Falafel Bites (Cucumber, Pickled Red Onion, Tzatziki, Parsley), Bacon Wrapped Dates (Whiskey Marinated Dates, Stout Syrup, Ground Mustard), and Crudite (Garden Vegetables, Lemon Hummus, Green Goddess, Toasted Pita), some of the best frys I’ve had in a long time and the shrimp cocktail, pictured here.

Live from The Lounge makes the perfect hump day getaway to help you jump start the weekend with tunes and libations. The weekly events are free and open to the public.
