Former Arizona Wildcat fills last Loyola assistant coach spot

Loyola hasn’t sent out the official word yet, but as blogger Joe Dlugosz tweeted yesterday from the Loyola Athletic Department golf outing, former Arizona phenom Jason Gardner is the final piece of the Loyola coaching staff. Indianapolis Star reporter Kyle Neddenriep confirmed the news.

Gardner is a native of Indianapolis where he led North Central High School to a 1999 state title and was named Mr. Basketball. At Arizona Gardner was a two-time All-American and played alongside big names like Gilbert Arenas and Michael Wright under head coach Lute Olson.

Since he wasn’t selected in the 2003 NBA Draft, Gardner has bounced around the European leagues.

Rob Dauster wrote about Jason Gardner back in July 2010.

Certainly Gardner has connections in Indiana that are appealing for Loyola, and the Horizon League offers a great atmosphere to learn from the best coaches and recruiters.
