Postseason Preview: Horizon League 1st Rd.

Welcome to Postseason Preview, the first in what I hope will be many looks at postseason games for the five city college basketball teams. (And beyond.) That’s right, while no team in the city had the season its fans were looking for, all of them still are technically alive to play in the postseason (read:... Read more »

McCammon wins Sixth Man of the Year in Horizon League

The Horizon League Tournament starts tomorrow and I’ll have full coverage of it tonight, but first the league awards were announced this afternoon. Cleveland State’s Norris Cole was named the conference’s Player of the Year. It’s an award he richly deserves. Though if they wanted to give it to Matt Howard of Butler (with a... Read more »

NIT Bracketology - With the bracket predictor

I’ve been doing these NIT projections for a while now, but, because I like computers, I wanted to see if I could model the projections instead and not have to do any actual work. Obviously this has some advantages – it just spits out the numbers so I don’t have to compare resumes. There are... Read more »

5 Questions with Ken at Voodoo Five

South Florida and DePaul clash in a battle of Big East cellar dwellers on Saturday and Ken from the Bulls blog Voodoo Five answered some questions about USF for me. I also answered some questions about DePaul. In the meantime check out their post about Great Moments in USF-DePaul Basketball History. CCB: South Florida is... Read more »

The curse of DeChellis continues

Northwestern lost again to Penn State on Thursday night, 66-52, at Welsh-Ryan Arena. It’s safe to say that right now the Nittany Lions own the Wildcats. Unfortunately, only Michael Thompson showed up for Northwestern. He scored 22 points on 9-16 shooting, but the rest of the team combined to score 30 and go 11-36 from... Read more »

Tempo-free Horizon League: Get ready for Game 18

St. John's defense chokes DePaul

The past few games the DePaul offense had been steadily progressing, but Wednesday night against St. John’s was a harsh reversal of course. A veteran Red Storm team didn’t allow the Blue Demons to get many open looks inside and clamped down on every DePaul player besides Cleveland Melvin. The result? A 76-51 road loss.... Read more »

DeChellis owns Northwestern, why?

Northwestern fans refer to him like a blundering mastermind, but Penn State head coach Ed DeChellis owns the Wildcats. The Nittany Lions are 6-1 in their last 7 games against Northwestern.  At no time were Northwestern’s difficulties against Penn State more evident then earlier this season when the Wildcats shot 2-21 from three-point range and... You thought DePaul's Big East streak was bad...

Last night Division III Caltech ended a 26-year, 310-game Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference losing streak. The Beavers beat Occidental 46-45 for their first victory in conference since January 23, 1986.  It was the season finale for Caltech which finished 5-20 overall. Check out this New York Times feature about the team for more. (h/t... Read more »

5 Questions with Pico from Rumble in the Garden

St. John’s blog East Coast Bias has moved to new SB Nation digs over at Rumble in the Garden, but that didn’t prevent Pico from stopping by to give some thoughts about the Red Storm before they take on DePaul tomorrow at Carnesseca Arena. My thoughts will go up over there some time later today.... Read more »
