Does Congresswoman Ilhan Omar raise the question her own allegiance?
"With great power come great responsibility"

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has raised eyebrows with some pointed remarks about Israel’s influence on American foreign policy.

Omar has taken aim at both the Jewish nation and Jewish supporters here at home, many of whom are members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Omar may be unaware of Christian support for Israel, mostly based upon an end game scenario; something to do with Revelations, I think.

All the Jews go to Israel and die so all the Christians can go to Heaven.

Some 20 agencies administer America’s foreign aid programs and the amounts can be distorted in a variety of ways, depending on what you’re trying to prove.

About 1% of our annual budget goes directly to foreign aid, which is broken down into four main categories:
1. Long term development
2. Military and security
3. Humanitarian
4. Political

Israel receives about $3 Billion in military aid each year, Egypt over $1 Billion in security aid.  In 2016 Afghanistan and Iraq each received about $5 Billion.

Discussing the efficacy of our foreign policy is always in order.  Congresswoman Omar is entitled to the opinion that we should cut foreign aid in general or to individual countries.

So far, Omar has proposed no specific recommendations regarding the disbursement of foreign aid.  Nor has she suggested any remedy for the undo influence exerted by any of the dozens of lobbyists that thrive directing public policy.

Absent any policy discussion or proposed changes, Omar should not be surprised that her criticism seems just a little Antisemitic.

In one of her posts, Omar said that Israel has “hypnotized” the world and she called upon Allah to make people see the light.

That’s a lot to unpack.  In one post Omar demonizes Israel as an evil Svengali while framing the issue as a conflict between Israel and Allah, God of the Muslims.

In a speech last week, Omar questioned the patriotism of Jews pushed into allegiance to a foreign nation, namely Israel. This is problematic on many levels, but it holds a mirror to Omar, herself.

Where does Omar’s allegiance lie?   She seems to be representing a constituency not entirely within her district.

Ironically, Omar’s divided loyalties were spotlighted by fellow Muslim Congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who said that Omar was speaking out for her (Tlaib’s) cousins in Palestine.

Omar was elected to represent her district, not to speak out for Rashida Tlaib’s cousins.  Just like the president is elected to be president of all Americans, not just the Nazis.

America’s mission is to stand for democracy.  In the Middle East, Israel is a tiny island of democracy in a sea of Muslim theocracies, autocracies and monarchies.

Israel provides us with valuable intelligence that our own intelligence community would otherwise be unable to secure.  That intelligence enhances our national security.

Unless a president with divided loyalties reveals that information to hostile spies, like Russia’s Sergey Lavrov, Sergey Kislyak.

On a larger scale, Israel’s contributions benefit humanity in every discipline from technological and medical breakthroughs to genetics and solar energy.

If you live anywhere in the civilized world, you are using something discovered, engineered or invented in Israel.

The land of Israel was the booby prize of the Middle East; barren, arid and without oil.  Somehow, Israel turned that wasteland into a flourishing culture, all while outnumbered 100 to 1 by neighbors determined to annihilate her.

If Israel’s neighbors were focused on emulating her instead of on destroying her, peace could come to the Middle East.

Israel clearly demonstrated her willingness to trade land for peace in 2005 when they bulldozed every Jewish home in Gaza.  In return, Gaza elected the violently anti-Israel PLO to govern them and became a base for missile launches and terrorist excursions into southern Israel.

So, what is Omar’s plan for peace?  Is it a two state solution?  Should Israel depart the West Bank, leaving it open for Iran supported Hezbollah to march in?

The western border of the West Bank is just 9 miles from the Mediterranean Sea and less than that from Ben Gurion Airport.  How long would it be before Hezbollah would cut Israel in half at her and take the airport?

Congresswoman Omar, I admire your achievement and welcome Muslim women to Congress as a long overdue change to the usual fare of old, white men.

But, as Uncle Ben told Spider-Man, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

You can do much good in your new position, Congresswoman, but first, you must be like a doctor.

Do no harm.
