AbEx Stamps and Jan Tichy

If you are looking for something to do today, say from 11 am to 1 pm, the Post Office will be holding a dedication for their “Abstract Expressionists” set of stamps. More information on the “Continue Reading” page.

The dedication will be in the Ryan Education Center of the Modern Wing.  That means
you can enter via the Modern Wing entrance, and just go to the
dedication, no admission required.  James Rondeau, the Frances and Thomas Dittmer
chair of Contemporary Art, will be giving a brief talk on the AbEx movement and talk about the paintings represented on the stamps.

I am preparing for an interview tomorrow with Jan Tichy which means a visit to the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA) and Spertus, where the artist has works on view in each respective location, an image from Tichy’s installation at Spertus is above.  Our conversation will be posted to ArtSlant sometime over the upcoming weeks, I’ll keep the Chicago Art Blog updated about it.  Or you can talk with Tichy yourself at his free artist talk at Spertus  on Sunday, March 14th at 1 pm.

See you next week.

*Clarification 3/11 5pm: Jan Tichy has designed the exhibition layout and materials at LUMA, he does not have a work there.
