It’s no big surprise. I have a potty mouth. I love the F word. Some people loathe it. I quite enjoy it. I try not to use it regularly. I try not to use it as an adjective. But, I use it.
I use it when I’m mad. And yesterday I was mad.
My son and I came home to a mess. A poop mess. In case you don’t know, I have an 8 year old, 170 pound, incontinent Saint Bernard.
Let me translate, a huge dog that shits without knowing he does it.
Most of the time.
The other half of the time he damn well knows what he’s doing.
Anywho, I came home to a disaster. My son started throwing a fit because he wanted something to drink…right now, there was dog shit all over the floor, and the dinner in the crockpot was burning.
And I screamed.
I screamed “FUUUUUUCK!” at the top of my lungs.
And right in that very moment my toddler looked right at me and screamed “FUUUUUUCK!”
Right. Back. At. Me.
Clear as day.
Stopped me dead in my tracks.
A part of me was proud. (I know, silly and parentally irresponsible.) Another part of me started laughing. But the main part was worried.
Worried that my two year old was going to go to school and start dropping F bombs when his BFF didn’t share with him or when he forgot the words to Old McDonald Had a Farm.
That would go over just great.
I started thinking about getting “that call” or having a parent pull me aside to tell me what my son taught their kid.
So I decided to make a change. I’m giving up the F word for Lent. I’m giving up saying it in front of my child or within ear shot. I’m going to do my best to watch my mouth. To stop swearing all together whenever he is around or we are around other little ones. To be better. To be a good example.
As fucking hard as that is going to be. See???? Ugh!
Can I make it 40 days and beyond without cussing in front of my kid?
