Chicago Cubs Mascot is a Welcome to Families

The Chicago Cubs mascot, Clark the Cub was announced today.

It’s. About. Time.

“The Cubs are thrilled to welcome Clark as the team’s official mascot,” said Cubs senior director of marketing Alison Miller. “Clark is a young, friendly Cub who can’t wait to interact with our other young Cubs fans. He’ll be a welcoming presence for families at Wrigley Field and an excellent ambassador for the team in the community.”

Wrigley Field hasn’t exactly been kid friendly. This is coming from a new mom and a die hard Cub fan who has been known to tie one on at the Friendly Confines. Not at the same time, mind you. I meant back in the day. The ballpark has been known to be more of a party park than family friendly.

The last Chicago Cubs mascot in my book was Harry Caray. Though he wasn’t exactly kid friendly, he was an icon that represented Wrigley Field and gave the crowd something to look forward to when they attended a game. Whether it be a jolly man with big glasses or a cute little cub names Clark, anything is better than a can of Budweiser being the only thing that represents the team.

Now that I am a mom, I hope to one day bring my son to a game where he can actually relate to something he can understand. Clark is it. He’s a cute fuzzy of a wuzzy and will make a fine addition to the ball park.

What is your take on the new Chicago Cubs mascot?
