Did you ever read a story that stayed with you? It wasn’t something you thought about every day, but every once in a while something would happen that would spark a memory and that story would creep back into your mind as if you just read it. That’s what happened to me when I read the story about Donna.
Mary Tyler Mom is a blogger on ChicagoNow and she chronicled an incredibly trying time in her life when her small daughter Donna was battling cancer. Unfortunately, Donna lost her fight on October 19th, 2009.
Although Donna is physically no longer with us, her memory lives on and the fight against Cancer continues. Her mom created Donna’s Good Things. It’s a foundation that allows all of us to do good things – the best way to honor Donna’s memory. They are hosting a shave-a-thon for St. Baldrick’s on March 30th. St. Baldrick’s is the largest private funder of pediatric cancer research in the world. It was created in 2000, and they’ve raised approximately $120 million. They also have an excellent charity rating. Very little is spent on overhead or fundraising – it’s really about the research.
Here are the details and a link to their site:
Event Date: March 30, 2013 – From 2:00 to 4:00 pm
Location: Donna’s Good Things at Candlelite Chicago: 7452 N. Western Ave Chicago, IL US
Since Bald is Beautiful, why don’t you volunteer to be a “Shavee”! St. Baldrick’s shavees shave their head in solidarity with kids fighting cancer while raising money from friends and family. You can volunteer at the event, help promote it or recruit other shavees! How ever you decide to help, just do something. Even telling one person about the event, might spark a whole chain of events. We can make a difference.
