We definitely know for sure that this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations won’t feel like anything we’ve ever experienced. No more jammed ballrooms around town with ladies dressed in sparkly gowns and men in tuxes BUT we do have some nice options that will still help us ring in 2021, and it damn well better be a lot nicer to us than this past year!
For starters, I was sad to hear that RL (312.475.1100) and Gibson’s (312.266.8999) will be closed for NYE patio dining but they both do have great looking carryout specials. RL’s holiday menu includes prime filet mignon or pan-seared sea bass with sides for $100 per person. And Gibson’s is offering a prix fixe menu that must be ordered before the 29th for carry-out. The special menu features sea bass and filets with sides ($75 per person, $275 for a family of 4).
Gene & Georgetti’s (500 N. Franklin St., 312.527.3718) is open for heated patio dining, delivery AND carry out! Their special menu offers a beloved family tradition of the “cotechino”, a northern Italian tradition for good luck in the New Year. It consists of slow cooked pork sausage served with lentils. G&G co-owner Michelle Durpetti said, “We figure that all of us could use a little extra abundance in 2021?! Amen to that! Other delicious offerings include risotto with lobster, 18 oz. bone-in strip or grilled swordfish (all with sides, of course!) The price per person is $70 and includes party hats and noisemakers! YEAH!!!
Another favorite, Tufano’s Vernon Park Tap (1073 W. Vernon Park, 312.733.3393), is open for delivery via Door Dash and curbside pick-up. This is the first time the iconic restaurant has been open on NYE in 20 years, all thanks to Darci Pinello, who conceived this brilliant idea. They offer three menus, a regular full dinner menu, catering menu (if your having a party at home) or their family pack menu that feeds 4-6 people. Prices range from $39 to $59 depending on the pack you want.
La Scarola is ready to party at 721 W. Grand (312.243.1740) on their sidewalk patio for NYE. Joey Mondelli and Armando Vasquez will even buy you a glass of wine or a cocktail if you celebrate with them! You can also order online for a pick-up (text direct to 630.865.6239). Menu items include pastas (of course!), chicken florentino, chicken Vesuvio, white fish, 10 oz. peppercorn filets, veal chops, salmon and so much more!
Marchesa at 535 N. Wells, is open for carry out and delivery with an amazing Le Reveillon Dinner Menu ($75 per person). Starters feature a variety of options including a caviar parfait. For mains, a half or whole turkey or goose dinner, filet mignon, rack of lamb or beef Bourguignon, and more. (312.527.9535, Pick-up times from 1 to 5 pm, Thursday, Dec. 31 and for delivery, Uber Eats, until 9 pm).
Swift and Sons (1000 W. Fulton Market, 312.733.9420) has a brand new concept in the form of YURT Villages! These adorable (heated) outdoor dining experiences, aka the “Swift Alps,” were each custom designed by Kehoe Designs and inspired by ski chalets from different decades! They’re described as a “winter journey through the ages from 10,000 BC to the year 3000.” They’re open for outdoor dining, carry-out and delivery on NYE.
One of our favorite French restaurants, Bistronomic (840 N. Wabash, 312.944.8400) is open for heated patio seating, delivery and carry-out. They will offer a 4-course prix fixe tasting menu that includes duck foie gras, duck, diver scallops, beef tenderloin and so much more ($110 per person) (Thursday, Dec. 31, 5-10 pm)
Chicago Cut (300 N. LaSalle, 312.329.1800), another favorite steakhouse of ours, will sadly be closed till Spring….but boy, will that patio be a welcome sight when the weather warms up and we are DONE with 2020!
Steak 48 Chicago, (615 N. Wabash) will be open for curbside pickup and delivery on New Year’s Eve (3-9 pm). Celebrate with delectable dishes from one of Chicago’s favorite steakhouses. The restaurant will continue to offer its full steakhouse menu and diners can place their pickup order by calling Steak 48 directly at 312.266.4848 or via UberEats for delivery.
Avli has a LOT going on for NYE at its two locations, Avli Greek Restaurant at 702 N. Wells (312.643.5656) and Avli Taverna in Lincoln Park at 1335 W. Wrightwood (773.857.5577). At Taverna, you can enjoy outdoor (heated) patio dining as well as carry-out and delivery. AND, joy of joys, at 11 pm, a NYE socially-distanced party will be held on the patio, black masks only, for only $15 per person! Ticket includes a welcome cocktail, distanced seating and access to a special late night bites menu from Chef Fernando. (Reservations/tickets here) Patio seating, carry-out and delivery are also available at Avli Greek Restaurant on Wells.
And one of our favorite spots for fun is the Baton Show Lounge, a world-renowned female impersonator show located at 4703 N. Broadway. For NYE, the fabulous entertainers will perform two shows at 7 and 9 pm. A celebration package ($39.99) includes dinner and cover charge and features scallops, pork filets or salmon with dessert. For the show only, cover is $17 with a 2 drink minimum. 312.644.5269.
Well, I hope you find a safe, happy and comfortable option if you’re planning to celebrate. It will be different this year but the joy in our hearts as we look forward to leaving 2020 behind will make everything so worthwhile!
