The Joffrey Ballet's elegant Spring Gala raises $1.6 million

The Joffrey Ballet’s Spring Gala welcomed over 700 supporters who gathered for a festive evening of world-class dance and fundraising hosted by its Women’s Board on April 21. The black-tie evening began at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University with an intimate performance by dancers from the Joffrey Company and the Joffrey Academy of Dance.

After the performance, guests were whisked by trolley to The Palmer House Hilton where they enjoyed a reception in the opulent Red Lacquer room.  Dinner followed in the Grand Ballroom where Community Engagement dancers, who are taught by Joffrey instructors, delivered a powerful performance for the crowd.

The gala was co-chaired by Sandy and Roger Deromedi, Shelley and William Farley, Jerrilyn and David Hoffmann, Maria and Bill Smithburg and Women’s Board President, Patti Eylar.

Notable guests in attendance included Mary Galvin, longtime supporter of the Joffrey Ballet and the evening’s honoree, as well as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Anne Kaplan, Frances and Chris Renk, Andrea Schwartz, Shauna and Barry Montgomery, Ellie Forman, Kathleen Henson, Brian Johnson, Sondra and Tony Karman, Noren and Rich Ungaretti, Virginia and Norm Bobins, Melinda Jakovich and Lucien Lagrange, Greg Thompson, Dr. Lauren Streicher and Jason Brett, Caryn and King Harris, Melissa and Brian Babcock, Karen Gray and John Krehbiel, Ann and David O’Neill and Jazelle and D.L. Morriss.

This signature event raised $1.6 million for The Joffrey’s operation and programming, including the various community programs, providing students of all ages the opportunity to foster creativity and confidence through the art of dance. (Photos by Dan Rest)
