The Chicago Pet Project Book: A tail wagging good read to benefit puppy mill dogs

The Chicago Pet Project: Portraits and Letters from the Heart is a beautiful coffee table book filled with hundreds of pages of notable Chicagoans (64) and their pets photographed exquisitely by Karen Morgan. The book was created by Cari Meyers, founder of The Puppy Mill Project, along with Kim Williamson and Morgan to raise funds for Millie’s Mission, a program that funds the enormous vet bills incurred by rescued mill dogs.

Some of the people chosen for the book include auctioneer Leslie Hindman, who is featured with her Bengal cat Bob; Mrs. Illinois 2014, Randi Moxi, who is shown with her pit bull mix Brando; hairstylist to the stars Andre Walker who is featured with his Airedale terrier Chester and fox terrier Ellis; Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey is shown with his rescued Shar Pei Pei Smudge; former White Sox star Ron Kittle is seen with his Wheaten Terrier Harley; Alison Victoria (host of DIY Network’s ‘Kitchen Crashers’) is featured with her Westie Wesley and Maltese Kennedy and Black Ensemble Theater founder Jackie Taylor is shown with her cat Kitty.

Other photos feature Stephanie Neely, Brad and Lizabel Young, Paula Fasseas, Len Kasper, Bryan and Amanda Bickell, Susie and Walter Jacobson, Roz Varon, Paul Lisnek, Andrea Zopp, Mindy Segal, Rick and Lori O’Dell, Gale Gand, Joan Esposito, Janet Davies, Sherren Leigh, Nora Dunn Whitney Reynolds, Peach Carr, Rosemary Fanti, Lisa Dent, Andy Avalos, Renata Block and so many more! I was honored to be included with MY hearts, Mickey and Rooney, two Chihuahuas-one a rescue from PAWS Chicago. ALL of the photos are gorgeous with cool images of the participants’ private spaces and letters to their pets that are truly from the heart.

Founded in 2009 by Meyers, The Project is one of the only organizations focused entirely on ending puppy mill cruelty. Its mission centers around its unique educational program and extensive community outreach. They also facilitate the rescue of puppy mill dogs and engage in legislative advocacy.
