Oprah surprises longtime hairstylist Andre Walker at his product launch party at Ikram

In 1985, when Oprah Winfrey burst onto Chicago’s consciousness on  talk show AM Chicago, a local hairdresser was already thinking of ways to reach her.  That stylist is Oprah’s longtime hairdresser, Andre Walker, who had simply sent her a note reading, “I’m dying to get my hands in your hair.”  The rest, as they say, is history!

Andre has shepherded Oprah through a variety of looks since that fateful day from straight to wavy, big to small, pulled back into a ponytail and more.  After decades of styling, Oprah says Andre is “why I still have my hair.”

So who better to come out with a line of hair care products than the man himself, master stylist Andre Walker?  Walker, along with his partner Dianne Hudson, have developed a new line of shampoos, conditioners and styling products called the Ultimate Gold System.  To celebrate this product launch, taste-maker and couture star-maker, Ikram Goldman, hosted an exclusive party at her eponymous store recently where a surprise guest showed up.

As Andre described his new product line to invited guests, I heard/felt a buzz spread throughout the room.  I looked around and there she was, the global icon herself, Oprah!  She looked better than ever wearing oversized glasses, a curly/kinky hairdo and a body skimming outfit that showed off her curves to perfection.  She graciously posed for Iphone pics with guests and gave Andre a big congratulatory hug and kiss!   The A-list crowd was awed!

Each guest received a goody bag of Andre’s products which he says, “are appropriate for all hair textures, all ethnicities.”  He noted that “everyone can use my keratin shampoo, conditioner and hair oil.  As the line expands, I’ll develop formulas that target specific needs, like volumizing.”

I can’t wait to try The Ultimate Gold System…..It has to be one of Oprah’s “Favorite things.”
