Steakhouse icon, Gene & Georgetti’s, celebrated their 70th anniversary in grand style recently with a by-invite-only party at Park West. More than 300 guests gathered together on Sunday night, January 29th, to honor this venerable institution with a bash produced by daughter and event planner, Michelle Durpetti. Michelle spared no expense to make this party a night to remember. It began with an hour long film produced by Loudbyte Cinematography that included never-before-heard stories shared by longtime regulars of the restaurant as well as commentary by second generation owners Tony and Marion Durpetti. Rich Melman, Lee Flaherty, Robert Hatoff, Whitey “Terry” Pearson, Dominic DiFrisco, Phil Stefani (who catered the party), Phil Hanahan, Vince Conroy and Charlie Herrick, among others, recounted the glorious past of this historic spot.
DiFrisco talked about the time baseball hall-of-famer and Yankee great, Joe DiMaggio, came into the restaurant. But before DiMaggio came, he had an aide call to see if there were any photos of Marilyn Monroe on the walls, and if there were, to please remove them before he arrived. The pain of her loss was too raw for him to bear.
