Beaming Faces and the Warmth of Christmas at Joffrey's Nutcracker and Dinner

At play in the “Land of Snow” with Lego Bob!

Every year, I can’t wait to see the Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker performance since it puts me in the spirit of the season.  This year was better than ever with some slight tweaking and even more outstanding dancers added to the roster.  The sets are pure magic and the costumes are breathtakingly beautiful.  If you haven’t seen it, there’s still time since it runs through December 26th.

The Annual Nutcracker Family Dinner was better than ever too.  Co-chairs Suzette Bulley and Odele Hawkins, created pure magic for young and old alike with a variety of “creation stations” plus lively entertainment such as holiday carolers, magicians and characters from the Nutcracker.  There were delightful activities in every nook and cranny of the magnificent Palmer House such as face painting, popcorn stringing, snowflake and dessert decorating as well as a Lego creation station.  CircEsteem taught the kiddies how to walk a tight wire and spin plates while their talented performers stilt-walked around the room to squeals of joy.

The family-style dinner was a hit with everyone and included turkey, fried chicken, stuffing, mac and cheese, vegetable platters, whipped potatoes and sweet potatoes, cranberries and more.  (They had me at mac and cheese!)

I hope this event returns in the same form at the same venue next year since it was “practically perfect in every way” as Mary Poppins would say!  (Additional pics by Caitlin Saville).
