Old Town Triangle's Fall Hoe Down and Chili Cookoff Party

The weather is turning cool, people are collecting wood for their fireplaces and the gentle folk of the Old Town Triangle hosted their annual Chili Cook-Off/Fall Hoe Down party last night! It was a true family affair organized by the “Mayor” of Old Town Shirley Baugher and Michael Warnick with everyone contributing something–a plate full of homemade cupcakes, various kinds of cole slaw, cornbread, pumpkin cookies AND the star of the night— CHILI!! There were sixteen different types of chili to be exact all vying for the top title. Judging was led by Perennial Chef Ryan Poli and it was a “hotly” contested race to be sure but in the end two winners emerged victorious. Lucy Baldwin won in the “Best New & Different” category (see recipe below) and Lucy Wojis won for her “Best Traditional & Classic” recipe.

There was great Bluegrass music by the Whiskey Hollow Band, a moonwalk and balloon artists for the kids and lots of mixing and mingling. It was a wonderful evening that reminded me just how lucky we are to be living in such a wonderful neighborhood! Partygoers included Alice and Judge John Huff, Monika Betts, Alderman Vi Daley, Shannon, John, Berit and Scotty Waterfield, Deborah and Ed Howlett, Rob Katz, Carolyn Armenita Davis, Carolyn Stephenson, Sharon O’Brien, Chris Long, Mary Martel, Tom and Tessa Bracken and Linda Short (with her dog Chester) among others.
