Finding Humor in Your Daily Life: Interview with Silly Mom Bethany Moy

For the month of May, I want to feature 31 women who continue to touch my life through their kindness, friendship, humor, passion, and determination. Each of these women have some great secrets as they open their doors and let me into their “mommy world”. Their stories bring us back to the realization that we all go through struggles, make mistakes, and sometimes need “to fake it until we make it” as parents. Join us as we celebrate these mothers throughout the month of May.

Welcome to day 7 of Bulldog’s Mommy Blog Project! Today we get to feature one of the most creative, fun loving, and sweetest moms I know: Bethany Moy. Before we learn more about Bethany, let’s share one of our parenting strategies.

Parenting Tip of the Day: Be kind to yourself! Remember that what we say or think about ourselves reflects how our children view themselves. Everyday, give yourself a compliment out loud in front of your son or daughter. It sounds silly and might be awkward at first, but trust me, it will help your kids build their self-esteem. You want to show that you are proud and confident. The more you can role model these small little things, the more you will be helping your child gain self-esteem and build confidence. For more info or tips click on our website: Parent Coaching.

I met Bethany through my younger sister and I immediately felt comfortable around her. She has this kind spirit and makes light of difficult or challenging parenting situations. I truly admire her loving attitude towards her kids. She was born to be a mom and always has awesome suggestions or advice. She enjoys the simple things in life. Let’s relax and enjoy the following moment with this compassionate mom.

Please welcome the fun loving and silly Bethany Moy to our Mommy Blog Project.

Walk me through a day in your household.
Oh lord, I wake up anywhere from 6-7am, but I’m always pushing for 7am. I get breakfast going and get ready to head to my daughter’s class. It is craziness; we get dressed and do some play time around the house before we leave. I always try to do some sort of educational activity with the kids, and get as much cleaning in as possible throughout the day. Four days a week we do a morning class with my daughter, and I bring my son along too. After class, we come home and my son takes a nap. Later we do lunch and both my kids take a nap afterwards. That nap time is my alone time and the only time I get to myself. When the kids get up we play, play, and play. We get dinner going and then we do bath time. We are in bed by 7pm.

Bethany Moy- Favorite Room

What is your favorite room in the house and why?
Probably the basement, since we reorganized it. It is the only spot in the house that is not crazy. It’s my happy and creative spot.

What is your favorite time of the day with your kids?
It’s breakfast time because we get the chance to sit and chat. It is a nice and calm time until we run to classes.

What is a unique family tradition?
We play a game we call the dragon rider. Every time we need to leave or get moving, we play that game. We are the dragon rider and we talk about the dragon like it’s a real thing. It’s silly and it gets my daughter moving.

What do you do when you are overwhelmed?
I need to be better at this. I typically don’t take time for myself and ask for help. It is really hard for me to ask for help. I am stubborn and want to do it all on my own. I have my husband, as well as my mother-in-law to help once a week. Just having that little bit of time when someone else takes over makes me a better mom. I get to rejuvenate and get more balanced.

What is the best “uh-oh” story?
We were potty training my daughter and we went around the block for a walk. She was 18 months old and I was 8 months pregnant. We made it down the street and all of a sudden she was like, “Mommy, I need to potty.” I was too far from the house to run home. So, I pulled her pants down and we peed on the sidewalk. I was embarrassed as people were walking by and I kept saying, “Sorry, we are potty training!”

"Along Came a Spider" - Los Angeles Premiere

Which celebrity mom is most like you and why?
I don’t know who I would say I am like as an actor or TV person. But, I aspire to be like the character Kristina Braverman (actress Monica Potter) from Parenthood. She’s the kind of mom that is so good at handling different situations.

What is your favorite website or blog?
This is a great site for ideas and new recipes. People are so ambitious and creative. I love to get inspired with new cooking ideas, snacks, or recipes.

What advice would you give your younger self?
Enjoy the time without kids. I got wrapped up in loving babies and having babies. I didn’t totally understand what motherhood entailed at the time. You know, you just don’t get a break from it once it happens. Don’t get me wrong; I would not trade motherhood for the world, but now I would tell my younger self to enjoy being free and single.

What is your go to outfit?
Right now usually leggings, a long shirt, and a sweater.

What is something you are pretending to know about but have no clue?
Most of the things that have to do with technology! My husband tries to help me out, but I just don’t understand it!

What have you learned from your kids?
I learned how to be silly. Now as a mother, I don’t care what others think and I will sing and dance like no one is watching!

If you could ask the universe one question what would it be?
Why are some people that would be amazing parents struggling to get pregnant? It is so sad to me that some people who are bad parents and neglect their kids have no problem getting pregnant, while loving people struggle to conceive.

What is the looming task on your to do list?
Getting my house in order. We have not yet fully settled in. There is always something to do!

Closing thoughts, mantra, or advice:
Here’s my advice: remember that everything is fleeting and it’s just a phase. If your child is going through the “terrible twos”, enjoy it! It will get worse, then better, and then it is over!

I would like to thank Bethany for her kind hearted spirit as a mother and for taking the time to share her thoughts about managing motherhood! Her fun loving personality was an inspiration to me.

I am pleased to show-off Bethany’s Esty Website, HelloBeebo!
HelloBeebo’s online shop features items ranging from turban headbands, to pillows, to cozy and extremely durable burb cloths! This “Silly Mom”, as Bethany describes herself, really captures this theme as she creates handmade items that are silly, cute, and unique. Love her stuff!

Until Next Time…
