Why I won't be at your home party demonstration

You know what I’m talking about…that dreaded “invitation” to a home party demonstration.

It used to be just Tupperware, Mary Kay Cosmetics and Avon, then along came Celebrating Home, Party Lite and Pampered Chef. Now, there’s Thirty-One, Origami Owl, lingerie, jewelry and naughty “adults only” parties in addition to all those others.

Sorry ladies, but no matter what you’re demonstrating, I won’t be coming to your party.

I really do appreciate what these women are trying to do – work, earn money and still be at home with their kids. That’s great!

However, everything I’ve ever seen demonstrated is SO expensive, and, for the most part, it’s stuff I just don’t need.

I don’t need another bag. I don’t wear much make-up. I rarely wear jewelry and I couldn’t care less about home decor or fashion.

If there is something I need for my home, or kitchen, I wait for Kohl’s 30% off coupons and hit the sale/clearance items.

And of course, there’s always Amazon.com.

I completely respect people doing what’s good for their families. However, I have to do what’s good for my family, too, and that means being a good steward of our family finances.

There is no justification in our budget for me to spend $40 on a bag, $150 on cosmetics, or $100 on a new baking dish.

So, when you send out your invitations, if you include me in your mailing list, I will call you and politely decline.

No excuses, no “white lies” about doing something else. I’ll tell you honestly that I just won’t be coming; that I don’t go to anyone’s parties, so don’t feel bad, but thank you for thinking of me.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors, I really do. You are amazing to want to schlep all that stuff around to people’s houses, put yourself out there as a salesperson and earn money for your family. You rock.

However, I hope you can understand and respect why I won’t be at your home party demonstration.

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Proverbs 31:10-11 (NIV)

10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
