Trichotillomania: the NEW new therapist

Trichotillomania: the NEW new therapist

If you had noticed, I haven’t posted anything about my oldest’s journey in dealing with trichotillomania lately. That’s because there just wasn’t anything to report.

Last January, we were blessed (so we thought) to get Saturday appointments with her therapist.

With the counseling office being an hour drive one way and the therapist not having any workable evening hours, we were left with Saturday as our only option, if we wanted to stay in-network with our insurance.

Within a week of getting all her Saturday appointments set up, we received a phone call from the office cancelling every single one of them. My oldest hasn’t been seen in months.

We even had to walk through a very difficult crisis on our own. I was so frustrated.

I finally said “enough”. We’ve gone outside the network, taken the recommendations of a friend and are set up with a counseling office that has great hours and is 15 minutes from home.

I’m hoping, too, that a male counselor may be more beneficial than a female one. She seems to respond to her dad better than me, so we’ll see.

I have to keep telling myself that it’s only hair, and it’s her hair. My oldest does not seem to be bothered by the pulling at all. I just want to make sure there isn’t something lurking beneath the surface that I don’t see and that she’s not telling me about.

Her first appointment with this NEW new therapist is this weekend. Best of all, he has experience helping people with trichotillomania. Thank you, Lord.

My girl is sweet and brave and beautiful. I am grateful to God every day for blessing me as her mom.

Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
