The many benefits of shea butter

Cynthia Washington

My goal is to share ALL the knowledge I have obtained over the last nine years about hair, skin and nails with everyone who is "Mane conscious"!

Shea butter is one of my favorite all purpose moisturizers.  Not the chemically altered kind but unrefined raw shea butter.
Unrefined shea butter is closest to all natural, and is the purest and most effective.  Pure unrefined shea butter does not have fragrances and additional preservatives.  The color is beige or slightly yellowish, and it has a nutty scent .  It comes in a soft butter form, and melts easily when rubbing it on your body or in your hands.  It absorbs quickly into hair and skin providing excellent moisturizing properties.  In addition, it is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F.  The shelf life of this product is two to three years, but over time lose some of it's effectiveness.

Refined shea butter is processed using chemicals, stripping the shea butter of its many healing properties.  Many products claiming to have "Shea Butter" as it's main ingredient are misleading. Read the ingredient label before purchasing any product because whatever is listed first will have the highest concentration in that item.

Some of the many benefits of shea butter:

Moisturize and retain the elasticity of the skin.
Ideal treatment for dry or aging skin.
Hydrates hair without clogging your pores.

I use shea butter just about everyday!  A lot of the tips, regimen, and recipe ideas I share will require this awesome ingredient!

Today's tip:  Apply shea butter to your lips each night before going to bed for soft supple lips in the morning.
