« The grand old Duke of Earl... Sox hang on to beat INDIANS »

White Sox fan, Dr. of Geology

Yeah, I know there are guys with better numbers, and Paulie won't win any trophies this year, and the other guys deserve it. I've heard worse MVP chants than giving it to 14 right now though.

Garcia was on the mound to start today. Did the usual Garcia dance through 4 innings...2 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, usual Garcia type line. However, Freddy was pulled after 4 innings with tightness in his lower back. No word yet on his future status.

Tony Pena came in for the 5th, and promptly gave things up. 2 quick runs in the 5th. He even got the double play (1 run scored on the double play) but managed to add baserunners afterwards and give up a 2nd.

That was the 4 runs for the Tribe. The Sox really tried to help them out today. They were credited with 3 errors, and there were a couple other plays that weren't counted, like Teahen throwing wildly in the 9th inning and as such missing the double play.

Rios got the scoring started with a first inning solo HR. Carlos Carrasco though, shut down the Sox quite efficiently for the next few innings. He had some help from Ozzie ball, of course...Pierre leadoff double in the 5th, Vizquel puts down the bunt, and then no one can get him in. DJ flat out couldn't believe that Vizquel would have been putting down the sacrifice there, not with a guy on 2nd who has good speed. Vizquel had to put down the bunt twice, so you know it had to be called from the dugout. Yeah, Rios and Konerko didn't get the job done...but you still don't play for 1 there and give them the helpful out. That was crazy.

The ballgame...was Paulie. Carrasco started tiring in the 8th. Nearly 100 pitches to get there, quite efficient, but got that far pretty easily. The word the radio folks used to describe the Sox bats today was "lethargic". It was accurate.

Alexei started things off with a 1 out HR in the 8th, to make it 4-2. Pierre walked, Rios walked, and big #14 hit a ball 375 feet right when we needed it. Huge, huge HR. This team was desperate for that.

Manroid got his first hit as a White Sox today, little bloop. Was also hit in the back after Konerko's HR. Last 2 nights, the Sox have had late game 3 run home runs with Manroid in the on deck circle. Does that matter? I dunno. Can't hurt. Manny was pinch-run for after his HBP, but then De Aza was thrown out trying to steal. Another 2 outs on the basepaths today.

After Pena gave up runs in the 5th, he settled down in the 6th and 7th to stop the Tribe. Santos got out of the 8th with a 3-6-3 double play on a nice turn by Konerko.

Chris Sale got his first save in the 9th. He struggled to get it...walked the #8 and #9 the ground ball that Teahen couldn't turn into the DP...and then struck out Choo swinging for the ballgame.

Need the offday tomorrow to rest the bullpen and the starting pitchers. Scherzer and Verlander facing the Twins the next 2 days. Come on Kitties.
