525 W. Hawthorne: Open house of the week

If you like high up views of the Lake and the north side, this may be the unit for you. The two-bedroom, one bath top floor unit is on sale for $274,900 or available for rent at $1,700 per month. The place has been recently refurbished and includes a doorman, fitness center and pool in the $509 monthly association fees.

Large rotunda windows in the living room give spectacular views of the north side of the city, as well as Belmont Harbor to the east. The master bedroom is a good size and includes two closets. The bathroom has new finishes but its pretty standard in terms of size. The second bedroom is a bit on the small side, but could make for the perfect office if you're a single or couple looking to buy the unit.

$274,900 seems like a reasonable price, even if the unit is a little apartment-esque (no separate dining room or area). The kitchen is well-finished with new appliances and tiled floors. I especially liked the new cabinets and drawers, which are much higher quality than you find in typical condos in Chicago.

The units location is ideal if you like being near the lake, but not particularly close to an L stop. It's only a few blocks  from a Jewel, Starbuck's and a handful of bookstores and restaurants. The street is very quiet and neighborhorly, with several smaller buildings between 525 and Broadway (not that you'd hear much street noise from the 31st floor). In general, I liked the unit a lot.
