I ventured a bit off the beaten path with this week's Realtor, finding Lee Diamond of Big Shoulders Realty through the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce website. Lee used to work for Keller-Williams, but split off with a partner in 2006 to start his own business. The cool thing about Big Shoulders is that it's a more laid-back experience. I met Lee in his rehabbed apartment office with a conference room that looks like this:
Lee's dress is casual and he says his business caters a lot to musicians and artists. You have the choice of doing your showings on a bike, by foot or in Lee's car. He's the kind of guy who tells it like it is and really seems to love his job. Specializing in architecturally unique and preserved structures, Lee sees a lot of young couples or families looking for bungalows in the city's Bungalow Belt.
But if you're not sure what you're looking for, Lee offers another option: Big Shoulders hosts free neighborhood bike tours about once a month so you can explore your options.
While Big Shoulder may not have the big resources of an expansive brokerage firm, they've got a style and uniqueness that would suit a lot of young homebuyers. Plus, it'll give Lee the chance to show you his fabulous "Polish Patio."
