I am a proud father, financial strategist, TV commentator and financial talk show host of Money Smart Radio

Like most people involved in personal financial planning, we were facing times unlike any other.  A little over a year ago, I was asked to come onto Chicago's WGN-TV Morning News to share some ideas on personal finance.

I needed to collaborate with mentors who have been in the financial industry for twenty, thirty, even forty years of helping families and businesses plan financially for the future.  Their response to me, "Matthew, we've been doing this a LONG time!  We have NEVER an economy like this."

After gathering their extended thoughts and masterminding with other financial planners, I developed some action items.  I came up with "Six Tips to Keep Your American Dream from Turning Into a Nightmare".  We even held a packed, live workshop to discuss this- you can check out some of these pics on my Facebook page

The results of these tips?  I have been getting calls, emails, Twitter messages and Facebook comments of listeners who have had GREAT success on varying levels.

Some have mentioned to me that some of the ideas they heard from this broadcast allowed them to have a deeper conversation with their financial planner and therefore, have not lost one dime of their retirement savings in the past year!

Another listener called to tell me that they got laid off and grabbed the courage to start their own business.  They called upon their twenty years of vendors and corporate contacts to help them open the door to new contracts and sales! An excited email came through stating, "Matthew, thank you for your inspiration.  Who would have thought I can leave teaching and make a living from what I love!"  This young lady started a very successful fitness company downtown using money from a self-directed IRA (previously from her school's retirement plan) and invested in HERSELF!

The bottom line is this.  DO SOMETHING!  Follow these steps or action items that you can relate to more clearly, but please, just decide and act!

If you'd like to get the full six steps, go to my site here for the full run-down.

Plus, if you have some tips you'd like to share...please drop a comment below!  We'd love to know and perhaps, I will call you to include you in our next segment in our financial talk show - Money Smart Radio!
