Robert Downey Jr. host A Night With Jamie Foxx at Gene Siskel Film Center Gala

The Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute in Chicago's annual gala benefit recently presented "A Night With Jamie". Oscar Award winner, comedian and R&B vocalist Jamie Foxx received the Gene Siskel Film Center Renaissance award, presented to him by Robert Downey Jr. and SAIC President Dr. Walter E. Massey.  The annual benefit in honor of Jamie Foxx was recently held Saturday June 4th at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago.

N'DIGO Foundation Hosts 16th Annual Gala with Special Tribute to Men, Legendary Singer and Producer Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds Performs Live

D. Williams PR Group had the honor to event manage and act as publicist for the N'Digo Foundation hosted its 16th annual black-tie gala which annually raises funds for college scholarships and honors recognized leaders who have excelled in their careers. Held at the world-renown Chicago Symphony Center, this year's gala, "Tribute to Men" was hosted by N'Digo publisher Hermene Hartman and former NBC5 reporter Art Norman. This year, 10 students received scholarships and six phenomenal men were honored. Closing out this star-studded event with an unforgettable performance was the Grammy Award winning singer, producer and songwriter Babyface and his brother Kevon Edmonds.

The Peninsula Chicago Celebrates It's 10th Anniversary

In early June of 2011, The Peninsula Chicago organized an extravagant event in honor of the hotel's 10th Anniversary. The celebration was hosted by Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai, Limited, Hon Sir Michael Kadoorie and The Peninsula Chicago's General Manager and Regional Vice President, Maria Razumich-Zec. A special presentation was made at the event to recognize the partnership between The Peninsula Chicago and The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in raising $85,000 at this year's Medicine Ball.

Chaka Khan Gets Her Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

The legendary Chaka Khan was given her long overdue star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in May of this year. Her long time friend and fellow musician, Stevie Wonder, was by her side for her fabulous ceremony. Chaka's star can be seen in the front of the My Studio Nightclub in LA.

Common Ground Foundation Gala

This past April, Chicago rapper, Common, hosted his inaugural Common Ground Foundation Gala in Chicago at the Intercontinental Hotel. The event celebrated women of excellence and leadership which featured food, a silent auction, entertainment, and much more. Distinguished honorees included Dr. Maya Angelou, Keke Palmer, Dee Robinson Reid, Sherri Shepherd, and hosted by Cheryl Burton.

Emerge! Fashion Runway Show - New York Fashion Week

My company, D. Williams Public Relations presented EMERGE! Fashion Runway Show during NY Fashion Week on February 15th during NY Fashion Week. The first annual red carpet, step and repeat event took place at the Sun West Studios in New York City and was one of the hottest new platforms for emerging designers for February NYC Fashion week.

The elite by-invite-only attendees included the elite of the fashion industry such as Audrey Smaltz, fashion editors, buyers from major fashion retailers, and well known celebrities. 

"The lines that debuted at EMERGE! were simply breathtaking", states Dionne Williams CEO of D. Williams Public Relations . "Fashion week can launch many a career to the next level so our event is rightfully named."

The designers whose pieces were beautifully featured on the runway included:
Terri Stevens, from Project Ruwnay, Sheila Rashid of Sheila Rashid Designs, Dawn Joi who is the creator and designer of JoiTees and Dominique Auxilly of Dominique Auxilly Deigns.

The event included a special award presentation to a groundbreaking honoree - .Audrey Smaltz who is the owner of Ground Crew a company that provides indispensible backstage management during international shows and other events.

Opening Night of Trinity River Plays - Goodman Theatre

Golden Globe winning actress and playwright Regina Taylor kicked off the 2011 at Goodman Theatre with her most ambitious work to date, the critically-acclaimed The Trinity River PlaysTaylor's new trilogy consisted of three stylistically distinct plays--Jar Fly, Rain and Ghoststory--that follow Iris Spears and her matriarchal Texas family. Ethan McSweeny directs this world premiere, in which Taylor explores transformative moments throughout Iris' life and the intricacies of her relationship with her mother. The play ran from January 15th -February 20, 2011.

Jennifer Hudson Toy Giveaway Event

Oscar Winning Actress Jennifer Hudson distributed toys to hundred of needy kids and families this holiday season through her annual toy drive at Navy Pier's Winter Wonderfest.  The Jennifer Hudson Foundation partnered with WGN-TV Morning News Drive-Thru Toy Drive in Honor of Jennifer's nephew Julian King to benefit the Abraham Lincoln Centre.  Over 4,000 toys were collected with this annual toy drive.

Athletes Against Drugs Holiday Celebration

Stedman Graham's foundation Athletes Against Drugs hosted its annual Holiday Party at the Fairmont Hotel.  Athletes Against Drugs is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and has hosted some great events this year in honor of the foundation.

The holiday party included a tasty and bountiful buffet, comedy by Damon Williams, silent auction and live performance by the band Chic.  It was a great event and kudos to Alicia Straughter, managing director of AAD on doing a great job once again!

Chaka Khan featured at WVON 'Take Back Your Life' Conference

WVON Radio hosted its "Take Back Your Life" which is an event series dedicated to supporting women in the five most important areas of our lives: spirituality, personal balance, health and fitness, career and finance, and relationships. The day is designed to celebrate women for who they are and yet inspire them to be the women that God created them to be.

Speakers included athlete Marion Jones, with an awe-inspiring speech regarding her time in jail.  Other speakers included Amy Hilliard and Cheryl Pearson McNeil.  R&B legend Chaka Khan was interviewed by Monique Caradine - the interview discussed Chaka's life and career.

There was a tribute to Chaka Khan with special performance by singer Terisa Griffin.  Great time was had by all women who attended.

Michigan Avenue Magazine hosted a reception for Chicago Bears Defensive End Israel  Idonije and his foundation at the beautiful Park 52 presented by AllDay Energy! The event raised awareness for The Israel Idonije Foundation which promotes the pursuit of education and knowledge, while providing programs for youth in the community.

Oprah Winfrey in conversation with Toni Morrison - receives Carl Sandburg Award

The Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Public Library Foundation presented  Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison with their annual Carl Sandburg Literary Award on last night.  Oprah Winfrey sat down in conversation with Morrison at the University of Illinois at Chicago. More than 700 guests attended the Chicago Public Library and Chicago Public Library Foundation's Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner held Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Forum at University of Illinois at Chicago.

Event Co-Chairs were Jim Tyree, Chairman and CEO of Mesirow Financial and Cheryl Mayberry McKissack, President and CEO of Nia Enterprises. 

The Chicago Public Library Foundation was founded in 1986 as a true public/private partnership with the City of Chicago to ensure the margin of excellence for Chicago's outstanding Library.

Uptown Magazine hosts The Luxe Private Event Series

Uptown Magazine & Bacardi USA hosted its Luxe Private Event Series at the penthouse floor of the W Hotel on Lake Shore Drive.  The event featured Rising Icon Laura Izibor who performed her songs including her newest hit "From my Heart to Yours."

eta Creative Arts Foundation located 7558 S South Chicago Ave in
Chicago,
recently celebrated the theme, "Upholding the Tradition" at its annual benefit gala to raise funds for operating expenses.

Entertainment was provided by the Muntu Dance Theatre, The Fabulous Kings Blues Band, Jesse Dean Stanford & Grace Note and the guests themselves who "karaoked" and danced the night away.

The Bernie Mac Foundation recently held its BLACK AND WHITE BALL at the Peninsula Hotel hosted by The View's Sherri Shepard and Comedian Joe Torry.

Dominick's Celebrates 85 Years

More than 300 guests celebrated Dominick's anniversary and celebrated its new store, located at 5233 N. Lincoln Ave. 
 
At the celebration, Dominick's management and staff greeted guests throughout the new location as they made their way around the store to check out some of its newest amenities, from the sushi bar and the open-flame hearth baking oven to the indoor/outdoor seating area, along with other store departments. The event had great food and wine stations throughout.

The N'Digo Foundation recently hosted their 15th Annual Gala at Chicago Symphony Center.  "Sunday Soul at Symphony Center" featured a special live performance by American Idol winner Fantasia.   N'Digo's annual gala also honored 6 individuals who are leaders in their industries.  Honorees included:  Ed Gardner, founder of Soft Sheen products (Lifetime Achievement), Pam Morris, former gospel fest coordinator, Dr. Terry Mason, Cook County, Chuck Smith, resident director at Goodman Theatre, Tim King, CEO Urban Prep Academies, and Chicagonow's own Tracey Schmidt.

Athletes Against Drugs host 25th Anniversary celebration special appearance by Oprah

 Stedman Graham's youth organization, Athletes Against Drugs (AAD)hosted its 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Hotel Arista in Naperville.

 AAD reaches out to youth across the U.S. to provide kids an educational outlet to advance their academic life without the use of drugs, gangs or social peer pressure.

Chicago Area Project Celebrates 75 Year Legacy

I had the honor to coordinate the Chicago Area Project (CAP) 75th Anniversary Dinner which was held at the beautiful Chicago Cultural Center.  300 guests attended the event to celebrate the rich history of this organization.  CAP Executive Director David Whittaker along with the Board of Directors hosted a wonderful evening.
