Yesterday, the Cubs announced that they've signed minor league deals with Augie Ojeda and Braden Looper and have invvited both players to Spring Training.
No, I don't know why.
But with the recent return of Ojeda, Reed Johnson, Kerry Wood, and Todd Wellenmeyer, can Roberto Novoa, Jason DuBois, and Todd Walker be far behind?
One player who refuses to be foisted from his OF position by the return of Brant Brown is Tyler Colvin. He wants the Cubs to know that, just because he had his lungs pierced with a shard of wood, it doesn't mean he's not ready to go:
"It's over," he said, matter-of-factly.
During the Cubs Convention, Colvin was asked about the accident. It's something he will probably be asked about the rest of his life.
"It's expected," he said. "I hate that I have to do it, but it happened."
So, let's move on. Colvin finds himself in the same position he was going into Spring Training 2010. The Cubs have four outfielders -- Colvin, Alfonso Soriano, Marlon Byrd and Kosuke Fukudome -- and three spots.
Cubs manager Mike Quade says he'll rotate the quartet in an effort to keep players like Soriano and Byrd fresh.
"Quade will put a lineup up there that'll win, and we'll keep it going," Colvin said.
I know a lot of you were extremely worried about Milton Bradley's future, so let me assure you that the Mariners are standing by their man:
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners aren't giving up on Milton Bradley as the oft-troubled outfielder awaits a court appearance following his arrest in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said on Thursday that the Mariners are moving forward with Bradley as part of their roster and expect him to arrive at spring training ready to compete for a job on the Mariners roster.
Bradley was arrested earlier this month in his native Los Angeles and has a court appearance set for Feb. 8.
"The legal issues are the legal issues. That's something that takes care of itself," Zduriencik said. "What we're thinking about is, he's coming in, he's part of this organization, he's going to compete for a job and let the pieces fall where they may."
Sure, let the chips fall where they may. And if they keep falling on women who he apparently can't stop abusing and/or threatening, so be it! After all, he can really hit a baseball!
Big news, kids! The new blog network started by Mark and I (with Pat serving as our esteemed Creative Director), G9 Sports, launches on Tuesday, February 1. That means that you'll find LOHO at a new url (and yes, you'll have to register again. Deal with it)": http://www.aleagueofherown.
Don't miss today's installment of Wrigley Talk Friday, which kicks off at 1:00 pm on Blog Talk Radio. You can find the link to listen here.
It's Friday, and you know what that means: hit shuffle on the ol' iPod and give us the first five songs that come up. No fear. No judgment. No cheatsies.

Wow, that was a weird shuffle.
Sorta like the shit Hendry is doing. What an idiot, seriously. He's already spend Gorzellany's extremely affordable and logical contract money on a bunch of minor league deals for schwag that don't make any major league roster. Masked behind the departure of Gorzellany is surely the fact that he needs to make room for Spellcheck. Hendry WANTS to be fired so he can collect unemployment. There is no other reason to behave this way.
The latest ones are killing me - Looper and Wellemeyer. Because they have Riggins written all over them. "Ooh, Ooh! I worked with Sir Dave Duncan on those guys! I know how to fix those terrible pitchers and making them pitch SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGELY! (for exactly one season) "Give them each a million dollars!"
Happy Friday.

It was the cover band version...
jarowcliffe said:
Oh nevermind then...
sloan peterson said:
Actually I used the spelling for the teacher that Skynyrd used for their name.... By accident....:)
jarowcliffe said:
Fun fact: The teacher that the band is named after was named Leonard Skinner, the original band name was actually, Leonard Skinnerd, but eventually they adopted Lynyrd Skynyrd. Skinner passed last September sadly.
If you are a fan of Skynyrd I highly recommend Freebird: The Movie

Re new LOHO Home: Will there be a FAQ area? Also will the default Avatar remain a traffic cone? Can we register prior to 2/1/11? And if so, is there some kind of prize? If the default avatar is not the traffic cone may I recommend a picture of the #10 in honor of Santo?

About Milton Bradley (damn...I promised never to mention him again)...
Last week, the Mariners made it sound as if, unless he makes a pretty impressive showing at spring training this year, he'll probably get cut. So there's that. With all the money he is owed, and as crappy as the Mariners are, my guess is that Bradley will have his usual good March and make the team.
and my iPod 5:
Superman - R.E.M
Innocent - Gowan
Miss America - Styx
Live and Let Die - Guns N' Roses (don't ask...Paul McCartney is much better)
Superstars - Styx
