Keep your wallet in your back pockets, gentleman--and keep yours in your purses, ladies.  March is offering some fabulous freebies around the hood.  There is nothing holding you back from attending one of these free events in the Gold Coast.

  • "Free Sweet Cupcakes 5-7pm"  Wednesdays.  This was the only information given on, along with an address and phone number.  It seems that the location is More cupcakes at 1 E Delaware Pl.  Don't know too much of the details, but I ranked this at number one because it sounds like a dream come true.  More Info.

  •   "Doodleganza: The Drawing Extravaganza" March 2, 6p.m.  Bring out the artist in you with an informal art class taught by Scott and Tyson Reeder at The Museum of Contemporary Art.  220 E Chicago Ave.  More Info.

  • "Chicago's 173rd Birthday Party" March 4, 9:30 a.m. to 1:00p.m.  In honor of our great city, enjoy free admission at the Chicago History Museum complete with cake and music!  1601 N Clark St.  More Info.

Interested in stepping outside of the Gold Coast bubble.  Here are a few free picks around the city that seem very well worth the small travel time.

  •  "Free days at the Field Museum" Free days for this month include March 2, 3 and 8 from 9a.m. to 5p.m.  Free general admission.  1400 S Lake Shore Dr.  More Info.

  •  "Open Mic Casting Call"  Thursdays at 7:30p.m.  "Cheer on emerging comics, musicians and variety performers as they audition for bookings at the Lakeview club." $2 PBR special. 3175 N Broadway.  More Info

  • "Critical Mass"  March 26 5:30p.m.  Meet in Daley Plaza to bike around the city with fellow biking enthusiasts.  It may be childish, but probably well worth the stares and honking horns of furious drivers.  More Info
