Location of the new Columbia Sportswear store: 830 N. Michigan Ave.
The grand opening celebration of the new store, located at 830 N. Michigan Ave., will last all weekend and feature live music, giveaways, prizes and much more.
Columbia Sportswear is not only physically joining the Chicago shopping scene; it is also financially reaching out the active community.
Chicago Talks website reported that Columbia Sportswear
is teaming up with
Chicago's Active Transportation Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization that works to improve conditions for bicycling, walking and transit and engage people in healthy and active ways to get around.
The organization will reportedly receive 10 percent of the store's gross sales during its opening weekend (March 12-14). Active Trans members will also receive a 20 percent discount through a members-only coupon.
Chicago Breaking Business News announced that
the store has also asked members of Active Trans to appear in "an urban fashion show" which will take place on opening day.
The Columbia Sportswear store will offer Chicago shoppers an assortment of performance outdoor apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment. The Portland, OR-based company
announced their intentions for the store back in 2008.
