Gap Sale Experiences and New Gap Logo

new-gap-logo.jpg

Wondering what you missed at Gap yesterday with the big 40-45% off sale? My friend Alma went and here's her report. Also, the readers of Money Saving Mom say that some of them got to use their Groupons but others didn't.

Alma also offers her professional opinion as Marketing Mommy on the whole new Gap logo mess. I gotta say, that logo that Gap scrapped looks like it belongs to a consulting firm in a Chinese special economic zone. Not so much like a warm and fuzzy clothing store. Good riddance.

Did any of you take advantage of the 40% off sale yesterday? Score anything good?

Southwest Air Fall Travel Sale and Sweet Credit Card Offer

southwestplane.jpg

Merger notwithstanding, Southwest is advertising a fall airfare sale with flights starting at $49 one way. That is, if you want to visit Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Omaha or Minneapolis. It's for travel Oct. 12 to Dec. 14.

Here's the price list from Chicago:

Southwest also has that credit card offer -- get their Visa card and you get a free flight after the first time you use it. That seems pretty sweet -- certainly better than using your miles for magazine subscriptions because you never get enough for a free trip.

Combine Coupon Codes at Kohls.com for Really Cheap Stuff

Money Saving Mom has a post today about getting The Big One towels at Kohl's today for $2.40 each -- shipped. That's very good, but I didn't want any towels. Still, she said that you can combine the 20% off coupon code FORUONLY with the free shipping code SHIPFREE, so I thought I would check the clearance section and see what else I could find.

To find the cheapest stuff, first select your category on the left, then pick a sub category. Then you should get a menu bar at the top of the page that allows you to sort by price, low to high.

I liked this baby Cubs romper for under $10 shipped

romper.jpg

And I stocked up on women's tights at $2 a pair

tights.jpg

I even found a bra. I have never bought one of those without trying it on, but for a couple bucks, I figured, what the hey?

Utrecht Art Supplies: 40% Off Entire Order Today Only

madness-05.jpg

Today only, Sept. 25, Utrecht art store in Chicago will give you 40% off your entire order. That's at 332 S. Michigan Ave. If you have an artist in your life you know that this stuff is expensive, so this is a pretty nice offer!

40% Off Angie's List Membership

Angie's List is a good way to save money to begin with. I'm a member and just this week used it to research good exterminators. (Yes, I know, the best way to get rid of mice is to get a cat, but we have a family member who's severely allergic.)

Today, joining Angie's List is an especially good move, because you can get 40% off with the coupon code REDPLUM.

It's today's installment of RedPlum's Dash for Deals, which is their way of celebrating National Coupon Month.

What, you didn't even get me a card?

Deals From My Inbox

Don't you hate subscribing to companies' email lists just so you won't miss that one big sale? Luckily, I subscribed to all of them for you so you don't have to wade through the crap. Here are a few highlights from my email this morning:

  • $10/$50 printable Party City coupon. Online, use the coupon code PCL9CEM. Also, they've got summer clearance stuff at 60% off over there.
  • Free shipping at The Disney Store with coupon code FREESHIP. Through Monday.
  • Print this coupon for $20-$50 off at Coldwater Creek, or use the coupon code WHH8293 online. Good through Sept. 12.
  • Double cash back at a number of retailers through Ebates through the holiday weekend.
  • RedPlum is offering $10 off a gift certificate for Spa Wish as part of its Dash for Deals short-term deal thingy. I think it's for National Coupon Month.
  • Not from email, but FYI: CVS summer clearance should go to 75% off on Sunday. If you need flip flops, Slip N Slide, etc.

Through Sunday, July 25, downtown Oak Park stores are having a sidewalk sale. Besides the deals, there will be free popcorn and entertainment.

I got 40% off, but it looks like the most common prize is just 10% off. If you played, let us know what you got, k?

Last Day of the Wilton Tent Sale

tent-sale-main-image.jpg

I sorta thought I told you about this earlier, but if you like cake decorating and that kind of stuff, you better hurry over to the Wilton HQ in Woodridge to catch the final hours of the Wilton Tent Sale, with markdowns up to 75%.

It runs until 8 p.m. tonight.

Jelly Belly Belly Flops 50% Off Starting Tuesday

flopsSale_shop.jpg

Buy four one-pound bags of Jelly Belly's Belly Flops (irregular jelly beans), use the coupon code FREEDOM, and get them for $17.76. That's apparently $18.20 less than regular price, so better than half off.

You can also use the same code to take 15% off red, white and blue Jelly Bellys.

Sale starts Tuesday, June 22 and runs through July 2 or while supplies last.

30% Off at Boden or Mini Boden Plus Free Shipping

miniboden.jpg

I am a sucker for the Mini Boden. It's a catalog/Web only brand of European clothing wtih great prints. But it's expensive.

Today only, everything on the site is 30% off, with free shipping. This apparently happens only once a year, so get on over there. Go through Ebates to get 3% cashback, too.

Another cool thing about Boden is that they will pay you $25 credit for referrals. You submit a friend's address, and if they're not already in the database, they send your friend a catalog, and you get the credit after they make their first purchase. Up to four referrals a month.

Want to sign up for a catalog through me? Send your name, address and phone number to carrielynnkirby@gmail.com, and naturally I will share that info only with Boden.

(Thanks, For the Mommas!)

That's Our Bag Sidewalk Sale

Confession time: I was downtown today and saw a dude with a sandwich board advertising $1 Jimmy Johns subs. I meant to blog it for you guys as soon as possible, but one busy thing followed another an now, poof! $1 sub time ends in 15 minutes.

Can I console you with another great deal I noticed while downtown? That's Our Bag at 200 N. Michigan Ave. is having a sidewalk sale. I noticed some beautiful leather satchels and laptop bags for around $45.

Deals from the Sunday Ads: Holiday Coupons for Michael's, Diapers, Deck Box

deckbox.jpg

It's a GORGEOUS holiday weekend, so don't waste time poring over those Sunday ads. In fact, don't even read this post until it's raining tomorrow and you're lying around the house bored. Here are the best deals from this week's Sunday newspaper:

Sunday Ads and Coupons: Cheap Diapers, Cheap Thermacare, Moneymaking Contact Solution

Here are the best deals and coupons I see in this week's Sunday newspaper inserts. Let's make this quick and dirty so I can go outside and enjoy the weather! This week I'm interested in Huggies and moneymaking Complete contact solution at Walgreens, ThermaCare wraps for 50 cents a box at CVS, and the ConAgra deal at Jewel-Osco.

Sunday Newspaper Coupons and Deals May 2

This week multiple stores -- Kmart, Jewel-Osco, Toys R Us, Walgreens -- are offering P&G money-back offers. And, as luck would have it, there's a P&G coupon insert today. So, you know, put those things together and maybe they'll breed. But my favorite store of the week is CVS, Where I'm hoping to make a tidy profit this morning.

Bah! My Tribune has no SmartSource this morning. I went online and reported an incomplete paper. RedPlum has a coupon for $5/2 various boozes, buy 2, get 1 M&M bags (12.6 oz. or larger), and yes, those Nivea coupons for the big CVS deal (see below).

Kmart has a P&G deal: spend $35, get $10 off your next order. Sure, it's a slightly better payoff than the P&G Catalina at Jewel-Osco, but you have to go to Kmart. Next!

Target is surprisingly low on gift card deals. Market Pantry cheese is $1.89 for 8 oz., though.

CVS has that awesome Nivea deal. (That  link also has info about the free Depends and Reach floss.) If you get All You magazine, check out Mashup Mom's scenario instead of mine. That's actually what I'll be doing this morning. Also, Dawn dish soap is 97 cents, and there is a $.50/1 for a certain variety in today's P&G.

Walgreen's has a similar Nivea deal as CVS, with slightly different prices. Same price on the Dawn dish soap too. Also free Stouffer's meals with online coupon, and 3 hydrogen peroxide for $1. See Money Saving Mom for the full details.

Next Week Is "TV Week" on Amazon

It's no shark week, but if you like to buy TV shows on DVD, check out Amazon's Gold Box offerings for next week. They're promising up to 67 percent off on the following shows:

·         NCIS: Seasons 1-6
·         Desperate Housewives: The Complete Seasons 1-5
·         Gilligan's Island: The Complete Series Collection

Nothing says "Happy Mother's Day" like 100 or so hours of grisley crime scene investigations, right?

Sunday Ads: Free Sobe and $2 Monopoly at Target

sobeCoachO.jpg

There's an extra coupon insert today that could be really handy if you like to stock up on kids' gifts: HASBRO! $5/1 Monopoly, $4/1 Busy Ball Popper (we have that one, it's great), $4/1 Connect Four., and more.

But it gets better: Target has Monopoly and Connect 4 on sale for $7 each. I really hope I have time to get over there this week and restock my gift stockpile.

And as long as you're going to Target, here's how you can get free Sobe at there this week: Buy 10 bottles @ $10, get a $5 gift card, making them 50 cents a bottle. Target has a $.50/1 printable store coupon here, There's a buy one, get one manufacturer's coupon here. I also have some $.50/1 tearpad manufacturer's coupons from CVS. If you can print five of those bogos (hit the Back button to print two per computer), you'll pay $5 and get it back as a gift card, making the Sobes free. As many store coupons as you can print will just be overage.

Sunday Ads - Even More Cereal Deals

dmdonahoocoupons.jpg

This might be a good week to hit Target. Other than that, not much about the Sunday ads say must-shop to me. Of course there are continuing cereal deals at Dominick's, and a freebie has popped up at Jewel-Osco for frozen chimichangas (don't get the jalepeno variety).

Target has a Kellogg's gift card offer that will get your four boxes of cereal or 12-count Pop-Tarts for $2-$3 -- 50 cents a box for cereal or 75 cents a box for Pop-Tarts. Buy four @ $2.50 each and get a $5 gift card for a cost of $1.25 a box. To sweeten it, print any of these manufacturer's coupons: $1.50/2 cereal$1/2 Pop-Tarts coupons and $1.50/3 Kellogg's cereal.

Another good deal at Target is Starbucks coffee -- it's on sale $7 for a 12 oz. bag, and there's a $1.50/1 Target store printable coupon. There are $1/1 out there on tearpads, or in the March All You magazine. Combining the two coupons would get you down to $5.50 for the bag, and remember that an empty bag of Starbucks beans can be redeemed for a frew cup of brewed coffee at a Starbucks cafe.

15% Off Alice.com Gift Cards Through Tomorrow!

alicegiftcard.jpg

Buy Alice.com gift cards at 15 percent off through Thursday, March 11.

At Christmastime, I bought some steeply discounted gift cards for Alice.com, the Madison, Wis. company that sells toilet paper and stuff like that at decent prices with free shipping. I gave some away and kept a few to myself, and since then I've been regretting not buying even more. Shopping with a discounted gift card means getting a discount on diapers and TP even if they are not on sale!

Alice.com does have sales and makes paperless coupons available; however the disounts are not the kind of huge ones you'll get if you're shopping a Catalina deal or something. And not every coupon that's out there will be available on Alice.com. Still, though. Having things show up at your door within a few days? Nice.

I'm definitely going to buy myself a few more. And I'm excited that this has come up right now for another reason, too: If you have never signed up with Alice.com before, please sign up through me so I can make a small commission on your purchases. Affiliate links are a new thing on Frugalista; my hope is that I can generate a few bucks here and there to help me pay the babysitter so I can keep on bringing the deals.

Beyond toilet paper, I'm also thinking about beginning to order organic coffee through Alice.com: We got this brand through my daughter's fundraiser last year and it is delicious. At 15% off, I'd be paying $6.59 for a 10-ounce bag.

Menard's Kitchen and Bath Sale and Our Bathroom Remodel

bathroomwall.jpg

I've been meaning to let y'all know that Menard's is having ia kitchen and bath sale through March 21. Maybe not of interest to everybody, but I was happy to see the ad last Wednesday because we have scheduled a full replacement of our home's only full bath.

That shower wall covered with a garbage bag and duct tape? That is actually our bathroom. We knew the bathroom was in sad shape back when we bought the house in 2007 -- I mean, it's obvious. Look at the floor, which is covered with those self-adhesive vinyl tiles. (The lines and writing you see are where I marked some sink outlines in Sharpie.

Shirts $5 at The Children's place

knittop.jpg

Select knit tops are $5 right now at The Children's Place, but don't get carried away -- they're normally just $7.50 anyway.

Now that I've gotten your hopes up, though, they're now advertising what's left of the winter clearance for $2.99. Like this zip-up pullover.

fleece.jpg

Shipping is always a flat $5, and the coupon code FAMILYA9 should get you an additional 15% off.

I'm not gonna look. I already made two winter clearance TCP orders and frankly, I'm a little ticked at them that they cut two items from my last order because they were out of stock, doubling my per-item shipping cost. I understand that stuff happens, but when this happened with Disney, they offered us credits.

Sunday Flyers Coupons and Deals: Diapers and Kraft Products

In this week's coupons, RedPlum has a bunch of L'Oreal coupons, and the SmartSource has a $5 off Science Diet Nature's Best pet food, $1/1 Nabisco crackers, and a bunch of ConAgra coupons. Do I smell a ConAgra Catalina deal coming? There's also a $.55/1 Breakstone sour cream and $1/2 Kraft for using on the last day of the Kraft Catalina today (along with the printable cheese and sour cream).

Very little new in the Jewel flyer, except that Beech-Nut baby food jars are 39 cents for the 4 oz. or 59 cents for the 6 oz. Use the $1/6 from the 1/3 SmartSource.

Ultra Foods has Kraft Macaroni & Cheese for 38 cents and a gallon of milk for $1.88 (limit 2). Banquet dinners are 68 cents, and there's a $1/10 in the 1/10 SmartSource.

JC Penney Free Shipping Code and More Coupons

JC Penney: Free shipping on orders $49 with code 10BEGINS, through Feb. 12. Can also use with phone orders at 800-222-6161.

100 free prints with purchase at Snapfish with coupon code MT572.

I Heart Wags has a link to a bunch of printable Walgreen's coupons.

Coupons.com has the hot $1/2 Kraft cheese coupon again (print it while it lasts), and $.55/1 Breakstone sour cream.

The awesome $1/1 Wild Harvest coupon is back for Jewel's organic products (unfortunately this time it's a SmartSource link that can only be printed twice per computer, not unlimited like last time). (thanks Mashup Mom)

OK, and this is not a coupon, but a confession: I am addicted to trying to find coffee bargains. So I had to check out Amazon's coffee sale, even though I've got a few pounds of various crappy varieties tucked away in my freezer. At least I read the reviews and I think picked a good bag of organic whole beans for about $8.65 a pound. Although come to think of it, I forgot to save 15% by doing subscribe and save. But here's what I love about Amazon -- I'll just cancel and redo my order. Excuse me.

(Whoops -- looked like someone snapped up my bag right after I returned it. Thanks, random buyer, for saving me from myself.)

A Few Tuesday Deals

Here are some great deals for today, Jan. 5: a free magazine, half-price sushi, cheap car chargers and super cheap women's clothing:

  • Free subscription to Cosmopolitan from Mercury Magazines.
  • Today's Groupon is a $40 gift certificate to Tank Sushi for $20. This used to be our neighborhood sushi joint when we lived in Licoln Square, and I can vouch that it is delish. I am tempted to snag one even though it's a long drive for us nowadays.
  • Today's Woot is something I never even knew existed: a 2-pack of car-to-car jump starters that go through the cigaret lighters. Jump start without the scary jumper cables thing? I will confess here that I have always been scared of jumper cables which makes me kind of a damsel in distress any time my car battery dies, which is more often than it should (I have little munchkins in my car who sometimes turn on the dome light without my noticing.)

The cost for this two-pack is $14.99, plus $5 shipping. The comments on the Woot page are mixed: Most people agree that this is a supplement rather than a substitute for jumper cables, something to try first but it might not work. Hmph.

  • At Borders, you can take 33% off the list price of any one item with the coupon code BSL7108N.
  • And this one's for my mom: Through tomorrow 1/6 only, take 75% off everything at Coldwater Creek with the coupon code 75SALE. (Thanks Wantnot.net!) (Wow -- that would make this top $7.50 and this cardigan $10. Shipping starts at $5.95 for up to $25 and goes up from there, but you can get a 4% rebate through Mr. Rebates or Shop at Home which would partially defray that cost. Will I turn old if I buy some stuff where m mom shops? I think I'm about to find out!)

After-Christmas Sales, Anyone?

So how was your Christmas, if you celebrate Christmas? Mine was hectic and joyful and really very lovely. In fact I am still having it, since I am typing this from my parents' house while eating a Christmas cookie. Best of all, my husband has taken the children sledding so the house is quiet.

So, I've been a little out of the loop dealwise. I did venture out to the mall near my in-laws' house yesterday and picked up a few deeply discounted items at children's clothing chain Janie & Jack, and I see this 60% off sale is also online.

I got matching gingerbread man slippers for my girls at $16.99 each, and as you would expect from Janie & Jack they are very high quality:

gingerbread.jpg

There are also some beautiful party dresses and other gingerbread-man-appliqued items among the sale items, in case you want to shop for next year's Christmas clothes. Of course, everyone else is having a sale too. I lingered at Janie & Jack's midmarket sister Gymboree, where there were lots of leggings for runder $10, but since I didn't have any of the 20% off coupons they're always putting in magazines, I couldn't bring myself to buy. The Gymbo Web site says they're also having a 60% off sale.

And, you guessed it, their bargain sister store, Crazy 8, is also having a 60% off sale.

Any of you score any great after-Christmas bargains?

Deals of the Day for Monday Dec. 14: $5 Disney Hat and Glove Sets, Play Kitchen Under $100

kitchen.jpg

Sick of Christmas yet? I was getting there, I admit, but then we put up the tree this weekend and the sight of all those ornaments clustered in the bottom three feet of a seven-foot tree made even Crabby Grinchy Mommy smile. The eggnog helped.

Here are today's best daily deals to help you get that holiday shopping out of the way:

Drop Everything and Shop: Lots of Target.com Toys 50 Percent Off Today Only

busybox.jpg
UPDATE: THIS WAS ADVERTISED AS A ONE-DAY DEAL, AND YEP, IT APPEARS TO BE NOT WORKING TODAY, EVEN BY THE OTHER LINK SOME PEOPLE USED. I GOT "MY FIRST PURSE" FOR $5 SHIPPED -- WHAT DID YOU GET?

I just tested this deal and it works: Visit Target.com through this link and all the toys you see will be 50% off. They're listed as AOL Exclusive Toys. However, you do NOT have to be an AOL member to get the deal. I tested it just now and my $9.99 toy became $4.99 in Checkout.

Also, many -- though not all -- of these toys are free shipping. Sadly, it looks like the Lego sets are sold out -- sorry I'm not reporting this deal until late in the day. But still, you have hours left to shop! There are still some great deals on there, like the busy box above, which is priced at $48.99 with free shipping, so it would be under $25 shipped! I bought that toy a couple years ago and couldn't find it under $50 anywhere.

If you use a Target Visa you are supposed to get an additional 10% off with the code REWARDP4, but it didn't work for me. Maybe I entered it in the wrong field.

Wish I could sit here and browse every page of these toys, but I have kids to feed and then a mom's night out. But, you know, when I get home I will totally shop until midnight! Don't forget about Toys for Tots or your charity of choice!

Thanks to the folks on the Slick Deals forum where I read about this deal!

Have a $10 Disney Credit? $5 and $10 Items Through Today Only

tinkerbell.jpg

Those of us who ordered PJ Pals from Disney and were disappointed to find out that our orders could not be filled received $10 credits as a consolation. I already spent mine, but if you haven't, Disney has items on sale for $5 (lunch tote, snowglobe tumbler, bean bag Mickey) and $10 (dolls, Buzz Lightyear PJ Pal, more) through today only.

You still have to pay shipping though, unless you spend $89 to qualify for the coupon code SHIP89.

Jayson Home & Garden Warehouse Sale Starts Friday

randolph sofa .jpg

Jayson Home and Garden is having a warehouse sale this weekend.

That might not sound like a big deal, but apparently it kind of is. The first time Jayson did this, the design community was "buzzing," according to Chicago Home & Garden. They'll have furniture 50%-90% off, with free local delivery, off the following:

SOFAS · CHAIRS · CASEGOODS · BEDS · TABLES · VINTAGE & ANTIQUE FURNITURE
ACCESSORIES · LIGHTING · HOLIDAY ITEMS ·GIFTS · GARDEN PLANTERS

It starts Friday morning at 10 a.m. and runs through Sunday at 5 p.m. The store even listed some tips for their big event, like to bring your measurements and a friend, and to travel light (Does that mean no double stroller with 2 to 3 kids in it?)

I may try to schedule a sitter for this if my 2-year-old is feeling up to that. I'd love to find a decent-looking desk to replace the ugly computer desk my husband uses in our living room, not to mention a nice-looking chair to replace his gigantic, rolling computer chair.

The address of the warehouse sale: (note that this is not at their regular store)
