CJ - South Side Strength, Honor And Cycling

Music + whiskey + tattoos= me

During a recent shopping trip to H&M, I was rung out by a a cute young guy named CJ whose right arm caught my eye. I asked if he would mind speaking to me about his body art and thankfully he got in touch with me the next day so we could set up a time to meet.

His first tattoo came about a month after turning 18 and is a gear from a bicycle. At the time, he said, he would bike everywhere, it was a big part of his life. He felt that it was small enough to not be intrusive but was a reminder that little things have meaning among the bigger picture.

The piece that stood out to me, and the one he gets the most compliments on, is the beginnings of a full sleeve. It started as two koi fish swimming upstream in fierce water. The koi as body art tend to be popular because they stand for strength in adversity.

Surrounding the fish is bamboo - which is known for its strength eventhough it is light. Hidden on CJ's forearm is a samurai, my favorite part.

His favorite place to get inked in Chicago is Bridgeport Tattoo Co. and his main man is Billy but he says he'd like to have the owner, Black Jack, do some work on him too.

Next up for CJ is finishing the sleeve on his right arm. Personally I can't wait to see the finished product.
