Ten by Ten: Results and Winner Announced for Week 2

Kevin Paul

Another week of college football is in the books, and once again the Big Ten conference provided plenty of fireworks, from Michigan State being upset by Central Michigan to Wisconsin holding off Fresno State in double overtime.  And oh yeah, by the way, those young kids at Michigan look like they could be the real deal, after holding off the Irish in a thriller.

The Ten by Ten contest also had its fair share of fireworks, with score totals up significantly from week one.  Yours truly did much better, as did the two others from the FBT crew, but word to the wise, never change a pick last minute... going away from your gut never works out - at least not for me...

But I digress...

On a happy note, we would like to congratulate Edward Rytych, who posted an impressive 90 points in week two.  Ed (hope it's OK to call you Ed!) held off newcomer Brian Haukoos in the tiebreaker, predicting a total score four points closer to the final of the Air Force-Minnesota game.

But let's cut the chit-chat and recap week two - here are the results:

1. Predict the winner: Fresno State at Wisconsin

        Wisconsin 34, Fresno State 31 Final 2OT

2. Predict the winner: Iowa at Iowa State
        Iowa 35, Iowa State 3

3. Predict the winner: Notre Dame at Michigan
        Michigan 38, Notre Dame 34

4. Predict the winner: USC at Ohio State
        USC 18, Ohio State 15

5. Predict the winner: Purdue at Oregon

        Oregon 38, Purdue 36

6. Which will be greater: Ohio State's total points or USC's margin of victory?

Ohio State's total points (15) tops margin of victory (3)

7. Name one Big Ten running back OR wide receiver that will have multiple TD's in week two.
        Evan Royster (RB - Penn State) - 2 TD's (1 rushing and 1 receiving)
        Stephen Simmons (RB - Northwestern) - 2 TD's
        Ralph Bolden (RB - Purdue) - 3 TD's (2 rushing and 1 receiving)
In addition, Eddie McGee had two rushing TD's as the Illinois QB...

8. Name TWO Big Ten teams that will NOT allow a 100-yard rusher in week two.

8 teams qualified here (Iowa, Michigan State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Ohio         State and Minnesota) - any TWO would have received credit.

        The teams that failed:
Wisconsin (Ryan Mathews - Fresno State - 19 carries for 107 yards)
Northwestern (Dwayne Priest - Eastern Michigan - 18 carries for 125 yards)
Michigan (Armando Allen - Notre Dame - 21 carries for 139 yards)

9. Which Big Ten quarterback will throw the most interceptions in week two?

Both Ricky Stanzi (Iowa) and Joey Elliott (Purdue) each threw 2 INT's

10. Which Big Ten team will have the most sacks in week two?

Six different teams in the Big Ten tied for the most sacks, with two - including:                     Michigan State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Ohio State

TIEBREAKER: How many TOTAL points will be scored in Air Force at Minnesota?

Minnesota 20, Air Force 13 Final (33 total points)

Keep an eye out for the update to the Ten by Ten standings on (should be posted sometime Sunday evening).  Also, as an FYI, the questions for Week 3 will be out early this week.

Take care and good luck - KP, KG and TC (First and Big Ten)
