Breaking News: Wisconsin Unveils Starting Quarterback

Tim Cary

Earlier Thursday, Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema released the long-awaited depth chart for next weekend's opener against Northern Illinois...and managed to tell us almost nothing about the skill-position battles that have dominated the camp storylines.

The starting quarterback, according to Bielema, is Scott Tolzien.  OR Curt Phillips.

The starting running back?  That would be Zach Brown.  OR John Clay.
Coach, if you're going to use "OR" on almost every line, why bother?  Our readers are educated enough to know who the top two quarterbacks and top two running backs are...don't insult our intelligence with a press release that's clear as mud.

Anyway, after the dust had settled, it appears we do know after all who will take the first snaps of 2009 under center for the Badgers.

According to WKOW-TV of Madison, Bielema said later today that Scott Tolzien will be the starter in Week One, although Curt Phillips will get in the game at some point.

What do you think, Badger fans?  Is this the way you envisioned the quarterback battle shaping up?  Should Bielema pull a RichRod and give all three guys a shot in the first game?  Comment below and let us know if you think Wisconsin made the right move.
