I ran off to join the circus...

And I didn't even have to go very far.  That's because the first Saturday of every month a local aerial dance/circus company/purveyor of controlled mayhem, puts on El Circo Cheapo Cabaret.  For a $10 ticket audience members can sit mere feet away for world class acrobats, jugglers, aerialists, and more as they rock The Aloft Loft, the group's West Town warehouse space.  And I am their ringmaster.

Last time I emceed the show I was tackled onstage by Aloft founder Shayna Swanson, saw a jaw-dropping double trapeze act (two performers on just one trapeze!), and hung around for a party afterward the quickly devolved into cross-room juggling and PBR drunk over feats of wild strength.

Need further proof that something this wonderful could actually exist?  Take the word of a Aloft student Lisa Brethold who recently told ChicagoTalks: "It's not 'Cirque de Soleil' but it might as well be."

Or watch this lovely promo (Caution: your brain might melt from awesome):

I actually think Cirque de Soleil has some catching up to do.

El Circo Cheapo Cabaret runs every first Saturday (except July when it has been moving to Friday) at 7 and 10 PM at the Aloft Loft
