I'm nuts just ask anybody.

Unlike our European counterparts who's elite leagues open in the next few days the North American hockey fans still have four weeks to go until the start of action on this side of the pond.

The Chicago Wolves season regular season starts with a three game road series in San Antonio on October 8th,Oklahoma City on the 10th and Milwaukee on the 15th.Saturday. October 16th the Wolves hit home ice to meet old rivals the Milwaukee Admirals after having the road games to shake the dust from their tail feathers. For the remaining days of October the boys are at home facing Abbotsford Heat, Rockford IceHogs, Oklahoma Barons and the Texas Stars. The lone away game is Saturday October 23,against the IceHogs always a good time to be had in Rockford.

The Wolves then spend the next three weeks on the road on their annual "Circus Trip" while the elephants and clowns take over the Allstate. They return on November 20th to face the Houston Aeros, the Lake Erie Monsters on the 21st and 23rd. A quick road trip to Peoria on the 26th  back on the 27th to face Grand Rapids and end the month facing Manitoba Moose.  At this point in the season they have played all but two regular opponents the plus North Division teams with the exception of the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Toronto Marlies.

Now begins the yearly chant in the West, over the season we will be playing Milwaukee and Rockford 10 games each, Oklahoma City 8, San Antonio and the Texas Stars 6 each, Abbotsford 4.  Intra Division game with teams from the North Division  Manitoba, Hamilton, and Lake Erie 4 games each. We will not see any teams from the mythical East or Atlantic where legend has it due to low travel times between games players sleep in their own beds each night and coaches tuck them in with a cup of coco, marshmallows optional. Yes, teams in these divisions are so geographically close together, with the exception of Hershey these teams can go several years without purchasing plane tickets to travel between games.

It is past time to roll the boys out of their eiderdown quilts. There is no reason at least some of these Eastern and Atlantic teams can't hop a plane and see and play in the big bad west. In past years at least one team ventured out past the Mississippi, however. for the last two years, none. Both Texas teams rack up the frequent flyer miles just as part of their regular schedules. The rest of the West division has to travel to them.  It is time for the East and Atlantic to help make the American Hockey League a more diverse league and shake the small town bus league image they hold so dear in the East.  Who knows, they may actually get to like room service hot chocolate and the odd long road trip.Coffee cup with whipped cream topping on table, elevated view
