The Chicago Blackhawks recently made a final decision as to the future of winger Akim Aliu with their club. On June 16th, 2010 the Blackhawks announced that Aliu was included in a multi-player trade with the Atlanta Thrashers. Blackhawks players Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel, Ben Eager and Akim Aliu were traded to Atlanta in return for Jeremy Morin, Marty Reasoner, Joey Crabb and a first & second round 2010 NHL Entry Draft selections.
Aliu's hockey career can be described as nothing short of colorful to date, as trouble seemed to follow him where ever he went. The 2007 NHL Entry Draft selection by the Blackhawks, round 2 (#56 overall), was assigned to the Rockford IceHogs at the beginning of the season in 2009, after having spent the last 5 years playing in the OHL where in amassed over 400 PIM's. During 2009/2010 season he played in 48 games for the IceHogs before being sent down to the ECHL Toledo Walleyes on March 4th to finish the season.
We wish Aliu all the best as he heads to Atlanta.
Here are a few images of Aliu taken over the past 2 years...

Akin Aliu, no one wanted to see him light up the sky more than I did. Aliu could have been the total package but didn't seem to grow as a player under the Blackhawk system. Will the Wolves and Atlanta be his right fit? He has boat load of talent, it's time to grow up and use that talent and focus.
