Rockford's battling goalie: Dan Cloutier

Patrick Boylan

I write the Wolves blog for ChicagoNow

Dan Cloutier may not be property of the Chicago Blackhawks, but his on-ice work ethic is creating buzz. Signed by the AAA affiliate of the Blackhawks to a professional tryout contract, Cloutier was brought in net to plug gaps left by injuries to the minor league team's goalie roster.

The veteran NHL goaltender promptly got it on, in the hockey sense of the word, dropping the gloves and raising the bar for Rockford goalies to come, taking on Manitoba Moose big man Guillaume Desbiens, as recounted by our own Kris Gray.

Reed Schreck, who covers the IceHogs for the Rockford Register Star notes in his hockey column last night that Cloutier has a number of YouTube appearances, including one in which he taunts beats the hell out of the other goalie then skates over to the New York Islanders bench to remind them who du man.

We've been blessed to see a number of goalie fights, they are as common as a bench clearing brawl, which means very unusual. I'm not promising anything, but just reminding people that the rivalry between the Chicago Wolves and the Rockford IceHogs will be expressed once again on Friday night at the MetroCentre in downtown Rockford, an easy run for the readers in the Northwest subs. You never know what you might see. Fun for the whole family.
