In January the Chicago Red Stars traded Lindsay Tarpley for St. Louis Athletica's backup goalkeeper, Jillian Loyden.  The trade came as a surprise to many, but it was a necessary move for Chicago after Caroline Jonsson decided to end her time in the WPS to finish her studies in Sweden.

Last year Loyden played backup keeper to Hope Solo for St. Louis.  In the three games Loyden started for St. Louis, she posted a record of 2-1-0 and was named WPS Player of the Week for her shutout against Chicago.

It should come as no surprise that Loyden is this week's Lady of the Match for her amazing play against the Boston Breakers.  In the net, Red Stars goalkeeper Jillian Loyden made five saves for the clean sheet, and also made what Hayes called a "game-breaking save" on a Lauren Cheney shot.  I wonder if this was the very impressive face-save that I heard Loyden made. (Sadly, I couldn't watch the game because it was not televised.)

In any event, hats off to you, Loyden.  We hope you have many more shutouts in your future with the Red Stars.
