Why you should follow your yoga studio on Twitter

Maya Henderson

Your source for all things yoga and wellness in Chicago.

People either really love Twitter or they don't get it at all and hate it. I'm in the former category. I tweet almost every day and I've discovered amazing bloggers, cool Chicagoans, informative news articles and great companies from using the social media tool.

If it wasn't for Twitter, I would have never discovered YogaDork, Choosing Raw, Fit Bottomed Girls, Afrobella or Chicago Marathon Val. I also wouldn't know about sweet giveaways or connect with my favorite products and companies.

Twitter is also a great way to stay connected with your favorite yoga/pilates studios and gyms for the latest news on special events, workshops and discounts for tweeps. The most active businesses not only tweet about what's going on at their business, but they also share interesting articles and links that will likely motivate you to stay active (and give you cool yoga facts to share with your friends).

Top Chicago Yoga and Fitness Businesses and People to follow on Twitter:

Andrea Metcalf - National health and fitness expert who is based in Chicago. She tweets a lot of quick workout tips and links to workout videos.

Frog Temple Pilates - Regularly tweet about new classes and specials at the Bucktown pilates studio.

Harmony Mind Body - This Lincoln Park pilates studio is very active on Twitter, thanks to owner Laura Dixon (also a great tweep to follow)!

Infuse Yoga Spa

Lululemon Halsted

Mark Beier - Fellow ChicagoNow blogger and personal trainer Mark Beier is a local celebrity on Twitter.

PiLALAtes - Pilates instructor Laurel Silverman is new(ish) to Twitter, but I love her tweets, enthusiasm for pilates and her great blog!

TruHarmony Yoga

YBBChicago - The Twitter account for Yoga Booty Ballet instructor (and my friend) Angela Gusman. She's also a lulu, so she tweets about that, too.

Maya Henderson - Follow me on Twitter for the latest blog updates, cool health and fitness news and random workout tweets.

If you're not on Twitter, "liking" your favorite fitness studio on Facebook is also a great way to stay in the know.
