I'd like to hear some sound with that test pattern.

Seems more official this way.

Thanks! If only there was a way to embed that so it would play automatically when this post opened...

They've censored your opinions??

Actually they are censoring yours. In the year that I have been following this blog we have never had the kind of racist, profane and hateful remarks I have seen over this week. I hope we don't again.

Mosh, thank you for commenting. I have always been very proud of the way that people who comment on this blog interact with me and with each other, and I've always made it a point to respond especially to people who disagree with me.

The most painful aspect of this entire episode was losing control of the comments. I can take whatever readers dish out, but the bile flowing back and forth in the comments was inexcusable.

I am not a full-time blogger. I put up a post and it could be a day or two before I get a chance to read comments and respond to them. Two things will come of this experience (assuming that this blog still exists next week):

1) When my kid is proof-reading a post, points to a specific line and says "Oh my God, Dad, that's harsh" I'll be less likely to reply "so what" and hit the publish button, and

2) Comments will remain moderated as long as this blog exists going forward. I'm not going to have a replay of the angry free-for-all that happened here.

After the last couple of days you really need a rest. :) Have a good weekend.

I'm really sorry about all that drama, Joe. :( I do think that comment moderation may be beneficial to help keep the peace moving forward...and I sincerely hope you keep on writing! I really enjoy your stuff!

I know it said the posts were pulled for violation of blogger guidelines...out of curiosity, would you mind sharing which one you were in violation of?

Exactly! What specific blogger guideline was violated? That needs to be answered by the editors. Otherwise, we can't help but fill in the blanks with censorship, caving under external pressure, censorship...

So much for freedom of speech and the First Amendment. Anyhow, I am new to your blog, and it is, in my opinion, one of the most articulate blogs I have read. I hope that you continue to champion the hard working men and women of Law Enforcement. It is a breath of fresh air in a very stagnant world.

I had read the posts and comments of the recent days. At least in the snapshot of time where I left off, things were mostly civilized. I thought it was all very thought-provoking and I appreciated the various perspectives you and commenters provided. I hope your voice continues here.

I'm disappointed in you Joe. You should know better than to tell people the cold, harsh truth. It's unfortunate that the same crusaders for the oppressed are the same ones that are upset about the lack of police presence when they're robbed of their iPods and iPhones while on the Red Line or Michigan Avenue.

Thanks for sharing, IrishPirate....I agree that this is a truly thorough look at what happened.

I think this sucks, no offense but blogs are there to express the blog owners view and opinion and while one can disagree with those they should not be removed. I had read some of the comments and those were so much worse and should have been removed not the post but then I guess that would set of even more people. I hope your blog gets to stay after all i love your stories and have even on the old site (and in person). If it gets removed I truly hope you'll move to another venue so I can get my law enforcement updates :). Hopefully someday down the road we'll look back at this and laugh about it. For now just know that based on all the comments and posts on other sites I saw about it you have a lot more people that agree it was wrong to remove them despite that some of them say they disagree with you view. I saw the point you were making in the posts and i saw that what you predicted came to play - as it usually does.

I would just like to express my support for Joe The Cop. Everything he said was true, as far as I can tell. As a cop, I think we sometimes forget that we tend to develop a dry sense of humor relating to sensitive issues. It's one of the wonderful personality traits that we pick up over the years. We probably have all told a story to non police friends that we think is hilarious, but they don't find funny at all. Not that Joe was even trying to be funny, but we can often separate the emotional component of any situation and look only at the facts.

I also think it is terrible that the blog posts were removed. Nothing Joe stated was racist. Perhaps it was too straightforward for some people. But in the eyes of a cop it was simlpy the facts of how the situation was played out by the media. It was not a social commentary on what causes crime, or how people end up in the criminal justice system. Joe seems to be fair and reasonable person.

But, at least you pissed off some of the blog brass. Cause dealin with brass is like makin sweet love to a woman. If they aren't screamin, nobody is having fun.

Keep up the good work Joe.

I missed the fireworks, but I just want to say I respect this blog and everything Joe posts. I've never known him to be racist or disrespectful to anyone. I'm sorry CN felt they had to delete your posts and hope you'll continue serve us with your excellent comments and opinions!
