Ella Elli has sex appeal.
4 Star Restaurant Group (Dunlay’s, Smoke Daddy, Crosby’s Kitchen, Tuco & Blondie, Frasca, The Windsor, Remington’s, D.O.C. Wine Bar) clearly was in the mood for something different, as Ella Elli stands out from the crowd.
The atmosphere is quite handsome. Immediately to your right is a classy sitting area with a plush, red velvet couch and grey suede-like chairs surrounding a fireplace. Just behind this chic area is a large marble bar with 3 globe-like lanterns hanging above. There are several types of tables to choose from for your meal including intimate booths lining the walls that can seat up to six guests, as well as scattered open tables for parties of two or four.
The dinner menu has Middle East, French and Italian influences. It first greets you with a selection of charcuterie and toasts, including the ever so popular avocado toast with a poached egg.
The vegetable selection is healthy and fresh. I am a sucker for a good salad and both the butter lettuce and Tuscan kale salad sounded equally great. The Tuscan arrives with a mound of kale, curls of fennel, shaved pecorino and lemon dressing drizzled on top. Just as flavorful, the fresh butter lettuce and endive, shaved carrots and cucumbers with a palette-pleasing lemon vinaigrette is crisp.
Moving on to the main event, the pizza and pastas as well as the seafood and meats section offers nothing too out of the ordinary, but is sure to please a crowd.
Though quite simple, the freshly made bucatini with sungold tomatoes and reggiano certainly helped reaffirm that summer is upon us.
In the mood for seafood, I debated between the octopus, swordfish and scallops, and in the end the swordfish won. Simply prepared with artichokes, pine nuts and lemon, I enjoyed this refreshing dish and it complimented the pasta well.
I finished the evening with the profiteroles (a weakness of mine), which arrives three to a plate with chocolate sauce drizzled on top. The dessert did not disappoint and was the perfect way to end the evening at this handsome new restaurant.
A few things to note.
Though somewhat hidden on Cornelia, the word has spread and people are visiting this new sexy establishment, so reservations are recommended. Walk-ins are welcome if you don’t mind waiting. Serving dinner nightly Ella Elli just opened for brunch.
