Each month I compile a must-try list of those new to the restaurant scene in Chicago and those establishments that have been around a little longer. I must admit most of these are new to the restaurant scene with the most recent opening being Duck Duck Goat. Below are my top 5 for this month:
Duck Duck Goat: After all the rounds of test kitchens and recipe creations, Stephanie Izard’s newest restaurant is finally open in Fulton Market. Think upscale Chinese restaurant which offers a menu inspired by Izard’s travels throughout China. 857 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607 | Fulton Market | 312-902-DUCK
Gather: A cozy space with a menu featuring shareables, appetizers and entrees with simple yet carefully created items like mussels, scallops and burrata. Serving brunch and dinner and offering a lovely outdoor patio for the season, it just might be worth the trip north for your dining experience. 4539 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60625 | Ravenswood | (773) 506-9300
Snaggletooth: This brand new two-story cozy establishment focuses on fish in simple yet inventive ways. Inspired by a Jewish deli, Snaggletooth offers fresh bagels, schmear, Sparrow coffee and tea. It may feel like it’s back to basics here but just by stepping in you are adding a little emphasis to your day. 2819 N. Southport Ave. | Lakeview | (773) 899-4711.
Scone City: Starting a new trend, Scone City is serving an eclectic array of light, buttery scones, both sweet and savory in a hip space. This trendy shop also serves coffee and tea to accompany your freshly baked scone. 1632 W Division St. Chicago, IL 60622 | Wicker Park, West Town | (773) 904-8722Sawada Coffee: A chill yet trendy coffee shop, opened by Hiroshi Sawada himself, a barista and latte art expert.
