National Trivia Day: Trivia games for both kids and parents

National Trivia Day: Trivia games for both kids and parents

National Trivia Day is January 4! Did you know that the world record for longest running game of trivia is 17 months? You don’t have to play that long, but my tween is a big fan of trivia. Here are some online resources for fun, kid-friendly trivia. Some of these sites your tween can play on their own, or use them to organize family trivia night.

National Geographic Kids offers a series of Quiz Your Noodle online trivia games, including a Weird but True Facts version (my tween’s favorite) and a Geography Bee version. The Geography Bee version is best for older tweens, and can be tough even for parents with questions like ranking India, South Africa and Russia in order of size of coal reserves. Stump Your Parents is another tween favorite – and a chance for you to show your tween just how smart you are.

Trivia Questions for Kids from covers a wide variety of topics with varied questions

  • In what year did the Titanic sink? (1912)
  • Who is the Greek god of music? (Apollo)
  • Name the four main characters from the cartoon series ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. (Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael and Michael Angelo)

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has a Fun Facts and Trivia page, including these nuggets

  • Like fingerprints, everyone’s tongue print is different
  • Almonds are a member of the peach family
  • Maine is the only state with a single-syllable name

Trivia Champ has a wide array of printable general trivia quizzes, including several specifically for kids, and lets you select between multiple choice and hidden answer format.

If you want to stay offline and have trivia fun, check out Kwizniac.  It’s a trivia countdown game that works for 2 or more players that we’ve enjoyed since receiving it at the holidays. There are both adult and kid versions. Or you can bust out your Trivial Pursuit game and get those pie wagons moving again.
