Seeing Jesus Christ Superstar at the Lyric Opera in Chicago

The first poster we encountered on our arrival to the Lyric Opera House.
The last time I saw Jesus Christ Superstar, it was 1973 and in a movie theater.  I wasn’t Catholic and the only thing that really interested me was the music.  I played that double album more times than probably any album I owned. When the opportunity to see it live at the Lyric Opera House... Read more »

I hate that Roger Waters has become the get off my lawn guy

We had great seats. With a multi-media show it really doesn't matter where you sit. Massive screens allow you to see everything that's going on. From a multi-media perspective, this show was outstanding. I've never seen anything like it before. Photo by Pam Spano
At the last minute, I was gifted with tickets to see Roger Waters at the United Center Friday night. Here’s a recap of the concert: Normally I wouldn’t write about a topic like this, but I was put off by the vulgarity and tastelessness of part of the concert that mocked the President.  My son... Today’s first reading, Ecclesiastics 3:1-11, brought back many memories.  The first I had ever heard of this scripture was when the 1960’s group, The Byrds sang it.  I had no idea it was from the Bible back then. Enjoy your morning and bring peace to someone’s day.

The New Anti-Catholicism: The Last Acceptable Prejudice

“It’s all about a sadistic Catholic nun and people who abuse and torture people in a Catholic asylum,” said Bill Donohue of The Catholic League about the new television show entitled:  American Horror Story:  Asylum. Back in the day, (cough!) we called it other things.  But having “been there done that” I can tell you I never felt good about myself until I left that lifestyle. And after I left that lifestyle, I realized that what I had become was the very men I so loathed! We live in a... Read more »

Our Blessed Lord and the Hobbit

Thumbnail image for 'Our Blessed Lord and the Hobbit'
When I was in high school everyone was reading The Lord of the Rings.  I think I picked it up once but soon abandoned it.  Fantasy was never my thing.  And to this day, I haven’t read it. I have always loved to read until I got to high school.  Reading “literature” killed it for... Read more »
