Am I a bandwagon Cubs fan? Sort of.
I have lived in this city all my life and I have never been a Cubs fan. Why is that you ask? Well, I’m not sure. My father was a fan. I remember him watching the games on our black and white TV in the little apartment we lived in on Ashland and Irving Park here in Chicago. I remember how thrilled he was to actually attend a game one year. It was never anything the two of us shared.
Where I work, we are allowed to wear sports jerseys throughout the year. I usually don’t participate because I’m not a sports fan in general. One year the sign went up in the break room that we would be allowed to wear our Cubs’ shirts. Since I didn’t own one, I didn’t think too much of it.
I’m not sure how it played out, but I borrowed my daughter’s Cubs shirt. For some reason, it’s been in my closet ever since. So every year, I pull it out and wear it to work.
Am I a bandwagon Cubs fan? I’ll do anything to get out of uniform.
