How to use Facebook for prayer

How to use Facebook for Prayer, an article written by Annie Turner for Busted Halo caught my attention right away.

There are days when I spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook.  I have to admit that I don’t pay a lot of attention to my friends’ posts.  Most of the time I’m looking for inspiration for my blog or just something to brighten my own day.  It didn’t occur to me as I scrolled through my news feed that some of my friends might need a prayer or two.

I have a few friends that put “their business in the street,” to use an old school expression.  It generally means when one is just giving out too much information.  Others might express their frustration over a situation that has left them troubled or completely devastated without giving the details.  Those posts stop me in my tracks, yet I never thought of putting my mouse over their profile picture and praying for them.

On my Being Catholic … Really page, I’ve invited people to post their prayer intentions so I could pray for them when I attended Mass.  It feels gratifying to do this and it also makes the Mass more meaningful for me.

So now I have a new prayer tool.  Instead of rushing through my news feed, I think I’ll stop and pray for my friends on Facebook.  I hope they do the same for me.

Please join me and other Catholics (and some not-so-Catholics!) on my Facebook page and on Twitter.
