Catholic Kitchen Kitsch

I was reading Elizabeth Scalia’s (The Anchoress) blog post, How I Loved My Kitschy Madonna, when I realized I have my very own Catholic Kitchen Kitsch!

We have lived in this house thirty-one and half years and I just didn’t pay much attention to the switch plate that has been in the kitchen all these years (and probably long before that!).

As I walked passed it one day, I was moved to clean it and I just stopped and stared at it.  It was like I had never really seen it before and perhaps I hadn’t.

My Parents' AngelI grew up in a non-religious household.  The only thing that I remember of any religious significance was an angel planter that my dad would use for smaller plants.  After both my parents died, I brought it home.  For many years I had it packed away.  One day while looking for something else, I found it.  I looked at the angel’s face and melted.  How could I hide such a face?

What Catholic Kitsch is on your walls?  What Catholic Kitsch do you remember growing up?  How about those spooky pictures where the eyes seemed to follow you?  Yikes!

Please join me and other Catholics (and some not-so-Catholics!) on my Facebook page and on Twitter.
